Centerstage Academy Meet the Staff – Meet our fabulous theatre and Joy of Acting teacher, Ms. Maya Garcia! Maya teaches Joy of Acting, Acting & Improv, and MTTP JR. She will be directing “Winnie the Pooh KIDS” (MTTP JR) this year. Maya can’t wait to see her students grow, discover their own talents, and enjoy theatre as much as she does! Maya also loves designing and creating wigs, and helps with the wigs and hair for many of our productions. She has performed in several musical theatre productions around the community; most recently, she played Lucy in PCT’s production of “Avenue Q.” Maya is also a playwright! Her original musical comedy, “Brainstorm,” which was inspired by Dialectical Behavior Therapy, was recently presented at a Fringe Festival, featuring Centerstage students in the cast. When she’s not at Centerstage, Maya works as a utility engineer and is passionate about environmental practices. Her hobbies include playing board games with friends, cross-stitching, petting her cat Biscuit, and cruising with her family – where she sings karaoke any chance she gets!

Ready for the next step in your musical theatre education? Consider enrolling in our advanced musical theatre class, MTTP 3! MTTP 3 meets on Monday nights at Studio 7 and will be performing a VERY exciting musical in the spring (pending licensing approval). Students in MTTP 3 will also learn more advanced skills during class time and learn how to take their performing to the next level! Students must audition in order to participate in the class - video auditions should be submitted to Miss April via email no later than Monday September 7! Centerstage Academy Meet the Staff – Meet our fabulous theatre and dance teacher, Mr. Garret Roberts! Garret teaches MTTP JR, MTTP 1, ATP 1, ATP 2, and Private Lessons for Acting and Dance! Garret also teaches our new dance classes at Centerstage: Mini Movers, Intro to Musical Theatre Jazz, Foundations of Ballet, Foundations of Tap, Musical Theatre Jazz, Dance Conditioning, and Creative Movement and Choreography. In theatre this year, Garret will be directing “The Lion King JR” (MTTP 1), “Winnie the Pooh KIDS” (MTTP JR), and “Game of Tiaras” (ATP). Garret graduated from Christopher Newport University with a Bachelor of Arts in Acting and Spanish, and a minor in Dance. Garret has been an active performer since graduating college, including both professional and community performances. He discovered his love of teaching a few years ago when he began teaching at Centerstage. Garret approaches theater education with the physical as a foundation, and he believes that the root of an effective performance comes from physicality. This approach can take the storytelling of a show to the next level! Garret is also supportive of his students, ready to meet them where they are to help them reach their goals, and encourages his students to try new things in their performing! Outside of Centerstage, Garret teaches yoga classes, loves watching movies, and loves playing Minecraft!

Centerstage Academy Meet the Staff – Meet our wonderful theatre and dance teacher, MS. CELESTE AGETT! Celeste teaches MTTP 2 and will be the choreographer for our production of “Les Mis” this school year! She graduated from the American Music and Dramatic Academy and also studied at Broadway Dance Arts in NYC. Celeste found her love of performing at age eight, and since then she has performed in professional productions across the US. Over the past fifteen years, she has also directed productions and choreographed for productions and events throughout the peninsula. Celeste is passionate, creative, and loves giving her students opportunities to take leadership and ownership in their own education. She is known for her beautiful stage pictures, flexibility, and willingness to think outside the box for new ideas! She is adored by her students and co-teachers, and challenges her students to always do their best! Want to take your musical theatre skills to the next level? Today is Alice's birthday!! Alice is one of our wonderful students at Centerstage. She takes musical theatre classes (MTTP) and also takes voice lessons with Ms. April. She has been seen on stage with us in productions of "Mary Poppins," "Beauty and the Beast," and "Newsies." Alice is talented, hard-working, motivated, and takes her studies seriously - she is an absolute joy to teach and we love having her at Centerstage!! Happy birthday, Alice! We hope your day was perfect!! 🎈🎂

Today is Gregor's birthday!! Gregor is one of our wonderful students at Centerstage - he takes musical theatre class (MTTP), voice lessons with Ms. Joy, theatre improvisation, and he will be joining our dance classes this year as well! Gregor has been seen on stage with us in "Peter Pan JR," and "Moana JR." He is imaginative, sweet, loves cats, is a talented singer, and is an expressive actor. Happy birthday, Gregor! We hope you have a wonderful day! 🙂
