This week, Level 3 students are being introduced to the relationship between sounds and symbols! This skill is the precursor to learning musical notation, but also assists them in literacy (pre-reading) and math (patterns)!
Students this week worked on hearing sounds and matching them to symbols, as well as creating sounds with instruments that match the symbols they see! The symbols of these various tools show the pattern, duration, and quantity of the sounds.
It was incredible to see little minds at work using their instruments to turn these symbols into sounds. They used staccato taps for the hammer, but sweeping movements for the saw.

💡Symbolic Thinking: The ability to use one object to represent another.💡

We’re not about to hand our preschoolers hammers and saws during music class, but we will give them instruments they can explore and use to represent those tools and more!

This is a vital step in your preschooler’s growth in:
💡language and literacy
💡math and logic
💡self-control and emotional regulation

So many skills at work here! Let’s highlight a few:

🐴 Learning to move our bodies safely through a space

🐴 Stopping in the middle of something fun (aka- inhibitory control)

Anyone else’s summer just fly by? 🙋🏼‍♀️ Driving in for my classes tonight felt surreal, like I never left! All of my Kindermusik Musicians students tonight were returning families and it was such a joy to reconnect after some time off!

Watching little ones grow over their years at Songbird Studios is incredibly rewarding! Many become like family to each other and their teacher. Come experience the joy and maybe make a new friend!

We’ve been so excited to share this one! 🌸🌻🌺🌻

We’re popping up at Burton’s Flowers for a sweet morning of play, songs & of course flower picking! We’re bringing our signature Happy Village play setup right into the flower field, and Songbird Studios will be joining us for a 30-minute Kindermusik experience filled with music, movement + dancing 🎶

Your $20 ticket includes admission for one child ages 0–5 + one mom/caregiver, 2 hours of Happy Village play, the Kindermusik experience AND 6 pick-your-own flower stems.

Bringing another little one who will be joining in the play + music experience? Additional participating siblings ages 0–5 are just $5 each. Want an even bigger bouquet? 💐 Additional stems will be available to purchase directly from Burton’s Flowers while you’re there.

A few other things to know: There are no restrooms or porta-potties on-site ‼️ so please plan accordingly. Parking will be on the grass in our marked parking area. In case of rain, registered families will be contacted via text/email with a rain date. Little ones will also need close grown-up supervision while picking flowers and using the provided cutting tools.
