Aidan Heck ’27 has always been curious about how things work. Now, he is putting that curiosity into practice through York College’s Engineering Co-op Program.
During two co-op experiences with Advanced Cooling Technologies, Inc. , the Mechanical Engineering major has worked with heat pipes used to cool satellite systems and applied lessons from Thermodynamics and Machine Design to real production challenges.
The experience is helping Aidan build his skills and prepare for a future in aerospace engineering.

An empty rooftop can become much more than unused space.
This spring, students in AnaLu MacVean’s Landscape Plants, Design and Management course explored how rooftop gardens can support pollinators, help manage stormwater, lower building temperatures, and create peaceful spaces for people.
The class put those ideas into practice through client-focused design work and a behind-the-scenes visit to the construction site for the new Surgical & Critical Care Tower at WellSpan York Hospital, part of WellSpan Health. Students saw firsthand the planning and preparation needed before a rooftop garden can begin to grow.

"Gabriel's growth as an artist came from a combination of curiosity and a deep willingness to learn," said his advisor, Professor Ry Fryar. "I'm incredibly proud of what he has accomplished."

What do cancer research, new antibiotics, and local lake turtles have in common? They are all being studied right here at York College of Pennsylvania! Our undergraduate Biology students just wrapped up a full year of intensive, hands-on research.
As Dr. Jessica Nolan explains: "The three topics we chose reflect a range of subfields in biology."
From solving global health crises to protecting local wildlife, these students are doing real science with real-world impact.

Nearly 25 years ago, three York College of Pennsylvania graduates signed the Ol' Spart rock and set out to make a difference. Today, Seth Grove, Kevin Schreiber, and Jennifer Berrier have left an indelible mark on our region and the Commonwealth through dedicated lives of public service.
From the halls of the state Capitol to local economic development and state utility protections, these three alumni prove that a YCP education is about more than just a credential; it is about building a foundation for civic responsibility.
As Kevin Schreiber, President and CEO of the York County Economic Alliance, puts it: "One of my key mantras is how much impact and good can you do in the world?"

True learning happens when the community becomes the classroom. This spring, students from a variety of majors put their visual design skills to work for Cooking Up Connections, a York-based nonprofit that uses the culinary arts to build leadership and belonging for local youth.
Under the guidance of Dr. Gabriel Cutrufello, the class designed practical, everyday communication templates, grant formats, and branding guides to help the organization share its mission more effectively.
For English and Writing major Angelina Wilson ’28, the client provided the ultimate motivation: "I wanted to do a good job for the young people learning how to cook and for the adults guiding them along the way. I wanted to learn how to use my document design skills to the fullest extent, so real clients were a great intrinsic motivator for me."
