York College's Center for Community Engagement is proud to partner with the Lead-Free Promise Project to host a series of educational neighborhood pop-ups.
Based on GIS research conducted by York College students in Dr. Jennifer Pomeroy's undergraduate courses mapping lead hazards, The Urban Collaborative is bringing the Kona Ice truck directly to areas identified as likely "hotspots" where risk of lead exposure could be higher based on data from the York City and the Bureau of Health-City of York. Our targeted outreach locations include Jackson, McKinley, Ferguson, and Lincoln Charter elementary schools, Sunshine Christian Daycare, and Stillmeadow Church of the Nazarene (City Campus).
Grab a free snow cone for the kids and pick up a free information packet packed with tips on how to prevent lead poisoning, resources about how to block lead absorption through nutrition, and information about how and where to have kids tested if you think they may have been exposed to lead paint.
