Key takeaways as a Mental Performance Coach for Elite athletes
Pro athletes don’t have all the resources they need either
If you want players to perform at a high level, the entire organization need systems in place
Give the players some grace. They’re doing the best they can
Bonus for all the young players out there:
Sliding mitts and the most expensive bat don’t make you a better player
Better training makes you a better player
If you or someone you know needs mental skills training, send me a message

Nobody prepares you for how fast your whole identity can shift mid-season.
Your inner circle might be what’s holding you back
If they’re not ACTIVELY and PUBLICLY cheering you on, they’re pulling you down
Your REAL friend
Your REAL family
They’ll encourage you to rest instead of party
They’ll remind you that you have more in the tank
They’ll defend you when you’re not around
Anything else is their way to make themselves feel better for not working on themselves and changing their lives
If you make the choice to cut them out of your life like you know you should
They’ll be wearing their high school varsity jacket telling everyone how that would have been then if they didn’t get injured in 10th grade
While you’re living your dream on Prime Time
Audit your circle
Imagine tomorrow was the Super Bowl
And you were the starting QB
What would you be doing RIGHT NOW to prepare?
Stretch
Recover
Watch Film
Fuel Your Body
What if you moved with THAT level of focus EVERY DAY?
You’d make a lot more progress in 30 days than what you probably did all year
I challenge you to move with THAT LEVEL of energy, effort, and focus for 30 days
Your results will skyrocket
I’m calling it the Pro30 challenge
Do it and send me your results
Most pro athletes are missing the same tools you are
Mental Performance really hasn’t taken off in the pro sports yet
Almost every team, at every level has in house Strength & Conditioning, athletic trainers, etc.
But most teams actually SHARE a Mental Performance Coach with several levels of their organizations
Not all, but many
NHL & AHL
MiLB A & Dominican League
MiLB AA & AAA
Most people have access to Strength & Conditioning on some level
And if there are resources you don’t have access to, we all have the internet
There are ZERO excuses
Athletes don’t have access to resources you’re missing
You already have everything you need
So let’s get to work
Play like you have Bryce Harper’s $300M contract
One major reason why these athletes EARN these lucrative contracts is that they’ve MASTERED a skill
Separating their identity as a person and their performance
They understand that a home run, touchdown, or scoring 30 points does not change their CHARACTER
Parents:
Does YOUR character change when your athlete competes?
Athletes:
Your performance is NOT your worth.
Your CHARACTER matters the most.

“He choked”
That’s what everyone was saying after Kai Havertz missed the shot in PK’s against Paraguay
It drives me crazy when people just slap labels on players
Willpower means NOTHING when your nervous system is flooded with adrenaline and cortisol
(Your fight-or-flight and stress hormones)
When you’re standing on a World Cup pitch facing sudden death, your body doesn’t care about your feelings or your good intentions.
It goes straight into a Threat State
Your biology literally slams the door on blood flow to your extremities to protect your vital organs.
Your fine motor skills go down the toilet.
Your internal motor speeds up, and your brain tries to escape the discomfort as fast as humanly possible.
If you haven’t trained your mind and neurology to handle that exact physiological hijack, your mechanics will fail.
Your biology did what it was evolved to do: trying to survive.
Stop treating mental performance like an optional accessory.
It’s an architectural skill.
If you don’t train it under real, high-stakes pressure, you’re just rolling the dice and hoping for a miracle.
“Just stop being afraid” is a myth
But fear can be managed
There are only 2 ways to become “Fearless”
1. Outwork all anxiety
2. Choose to be excited
Your brain does not know the difference between fear and excitement
It is almost the same signal to the brain
The difference is our perception AND BELIEF of that moment
For example
If you’re at a showcase in front of pro scouts, you’d probably be nervous. I would too. That’s normal.
Shift that thought to:
- “I have the opportunity to fulfill my dream”
- “I’m living the story I will tell me kids one day”
- “It’s time to put on a show”
Or anything else that gets your adrenaline pumping
Now that you have some ideas of what helps, use that same thought in every training session - regardless of how nervous (or calm) you are
The adrenaline will help you have a better quality training session
Better quality training = better quality competition
Choose your thoughts
Choose your emotions
Choose your actions
Choose your results
Doing everything does nothing
Most athletes are looking for the edge
They’re looking for the newest sneakers
The newest carbon fiber insoles
The newest bat that adds 20 ft to your hit
And as soon as they find this “hack” they think they’re Kobe
Even if you ARE training every day, you’re probably not ACTUALLY training
Training should PREPARE you for battle on the field
If competition feels more taxing than a training session, you’re not actually training
You’re pretending
