Partnering for Your Future: Exploring MajorClarity Together

Dear Parents, Guardians, and Students:

At Yazoo City High School, we are committed to preparing every student for success after graduation—whether that path leads to college, the workforce, or technical training. One of the tools we use to support this goal is the MajorClarity platform, which includes opportunities for students to complete micro-credentials.

Micro-credentials are short, focused learning experiences that allow students to explore different career fields and develop important workplace skills. While these micro-credentials are not formal certifications in a specific trade or profession, they do demonstrate a student’s initiative, responsibility, and willingness to learn about careers and build real-world skills.

We are asking for your partnership. Students, take time to show your parents or guardians your MajorClarity account at home. Parents, please ask your child to walk you through what they are working on. This simple step can lead to meaningful conversations about goals, interests, and future plans.

Through MajorClarity, students can complete micro-credentials in areas such as:

Cybersecurity Technology
Energy
General Employability / Soft Skills
HVAC
Medical Services
Nursing
Software Programming
Virtual Etiquette
AgTech
Personal Finance

By completing these micro-credentials, students are:

Exploring potential career interests
Building important employability and life skills
Creating experiences they can include on resumes, job applications, and college materials

In today’s world, employers and colleges are looking for students who show initiative and take steps to prepare for their future. Micro-credentials help students demonstrate that effort in a clear and meaningful way.

We strongly encourage all students to complete their micro-credentials and download them for their personal records so they can be used as part of a resume or portfolio.

April 28, 2026 - This is an event we usually celebrate and cheer our students for their state testing. We had exceptional attendance and support from both the students and the staff.

It clearly shows that we are all on one core as we did Black Out Day for our students. We are always here for the students that’s why we used student friendly pictures on our shirts like clock it and 4-5s like 6-7 they say.

Yazoo City Municipal School District continues to lead with purpose, innovation, and impact! Over the past several years, the district has intentionally leveraged GEAR UP’s college- and career-going culture resources through targeted professional learning with Vela Institute, ongoing internal reflection using the Patricia McDonough College-Going Culture Rubric, and student focus groups conducted in partnership with Vela to enhance student outcomes and expand postsecondary opportunities. The result is a strong and sustainable college- and career-going culture across the district.

That work is now earning national recognition.

As a result of these intentional efforts and their measurable impact, GEAR UP has selected Yazoo City Municipal School District to present at the National NCCEP Conference in Washington, D.C. this July. Representing the district, Dr. Sharon Brown, Yazoo City High School Principal, and Ms. Romeka Mack, Yazoo City Municipal School District’s Director of Accreditation and Accountability/District GEAR UP Liaison, will co-present alongside partners from Vela Institute and GEAR UP.

Their session, “Nine Facets, One Culture: The Blueprint for a Thriving Career- and College-Going Culture,” will highlight Yazoo City’s strategic approach and the results of its commitment to ensuring every student is prepared for success beyond high school.

This national recognition reflects a collective, districtwide effort driven by visionary leadership and strong collaboration.

The district’s success is strengthened through collaboration with Get2College and the Mississippi Delta GEAR UP Partnership and supported by Dr. Earl Watkins, Interim Superintendent, and Dr. Sametra Brown, Assistant Superintendent, whose leadership has helped sustain and prioritize this work.

The district’s success is also supported by the YCHS administrative team, with special recognition to Dr. Gregory Washington, Assistant Principal at Yazoo City High School/YCHS GEAR UP Site Coordinator, whose leadership has been instrumental in advancing these efforts. Additional contributions from district leaders have further strengthened this work, including Dr. RoeNina Bolton, Dean of Climate and Culture, who has coordinated and planned numerous collegiate exposure opportunities, and Ms. Yolanda Strong, Larry Summers Career and Technical Education Center Director, whose efforts have been key in connecting students with professionals and postsecondary institutions to support future planning.

From vision to the national stage, Yazoo City Municipal School District is demonstrating what’s possible when purpose drives the work—and others are taking notice.

This summer, JSU is hosting an award-winning STEM camp in collaboration with ExxonMobil and with instruction designed by the Rice University Tapia Center. This camp is for rising 10th-12th graders in the Jackson area. Students will explore a wide range of STEM topics through hands-on challenges and activities including data centers and their impacts, carbon capture and storage, and AI-generated videos and algorithms. Beyond these activities, students learn and practice public speaking skills and collaborate with fellow students.

The district will provide transportation each day for all students who register to participate.

Yazoo City High School PBIS takes a trip to the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum❤️

February 18, 2026 - What a wonderful way to celebrate positive behavior and school attendance for students at Yazoo City High School!!
During Black History Month, our students had the opportunity to visit the Mississippi Civil Rights Museum in Jackson, MS — an experience that was both powerful and inspiring.

Thank you to our dedicated PBIS team members — Ms. Hatchett, Ms. Juchheim, and Ms. Fisher — for making this experience possible. The students were so engaged and well-behaved, and it truly showed throughout the day. We are proud of our students for representing our school with excellence! ✊🏾📚
