This coming week is Summer Arts Fest! Please consider helping our friends at Yankton Area Arts by donating your time!

Summer Arts Festival is almost here (August 21–23), and we can’t pull it off without you. Whether you’ve got a couple hours or the whole weekend, we’d love your help.

We’re looking for hands with:

• Booth and vendor setup
• Info booth and greeting visitors
• Cleanup and teardown

No experience needed — just bring a good attitude and comfortable shoes. It’s a fun way to be part of the festival, meet some great people, and support the arts in Yankton.

A new year means a new team member! Please help us welcome S. Gretchen Johnston, OSB!

Sister Gretchen Johnston has taught music since she was thirteen. This was also the start of her sacred music journey, playing for many churches and Christian denominations. She has attended liturgy workshops, including the Benedictine Liturgy Forum, and teaching conferences on a state and national level. She holds degrees from the University of Missouri-Columbia and The College of St. Scholastica in Duluth, MN.

S. Gretchen will teach piano and organ, accompany both our choirs, and play for campus and chapel events. We are grateful for her presence among us, and excited for the good work ahead!

Join our friends from Prairie Waves Ukulele Club (including some familiar faces) for a fun program tonight!

Yankton Area Arts is proud to announce its final concert of the Summer 2026 season next Tuesday at Riverside Park. Special thanks to Eli Berry, Executive Director of Yankton Area Arts; Todd Larson and Luke Youmans with the City of Yankton; all the media outlets that have so generously helped to promote our events as well as a special thank you to the community for joining us.

Prairie Waves Ukulele Band takes the stage at the Riverside Park amphitheater on Tuesday, July 28 at 8 pm as part of the Yankton Area Arts summer concert series.

The band consists of experienced local musicians who add vocals, percussion, and other instruments to a backdrop of ukulele playing. After coming together in 2025 to play some Hawaiian songs, they have also added pop, rock, and folk music to their repertoire and performed at various venues in the Yankton area.

The band has sparked interest in community-based music and fun with the ukulele. Band members host regular bimonthly club meetings inviting all ages and skill levels to explore the possibilities of this delightful instrument. Check out their page for information on club meetings and events.

Anyone thinking of playing the ukulele or diving into community music should check out Prairie Waves in the park. Come catch the ukulele wave, relax and enjoy familiar toe-tapping tunes that span multiple eras and genres
