Last Friday, NASA's Artemis II crew returned to Earth and set records in space travel! Today's Tech Tuesday Tip links to NASA's website which contains tons of information and activities for students. NASA's website is a trusted source, and our Oakwood Cardinals begin learning about the importance of trusted sources for information in first grade, and by fifth grade they know how to self-evaluate sources and site them correctly.

Good evening, Oakwood Cardinal Families! This is Michelle Robinson, principal of Oakwood with a few announcements for the week.

Dates to remember:
We will continue to start instruction at 8:00 each morning. The car rider line will start at 7:45 as usual but will end at 8:00 so that teachers can begin instruction.

Please do not move the cones in the parking lot as these have been placed strategically throughout to ensure the safety of the flow of traffic. Also, do not park in the front of the building at any time. We have to leave this area open at all times.

Welcome back to all our Cardinals! We hope everyone had a wonderful spring break!

Looking ahead- our Math/Science Night with Duke Energy will be on Tuesday, April 21st from 5:30pm-6:30pm. Our K-2 music program will be April 23rd at 1:45 pm. Our kindergarten kickoff for rising kindergarten students will be Thursday, April 30th from 5:30pm-6:30pm.

Our character trait for the month of April is teamwork and being cooperative. Take this month to talk with your child about ways they can show cooperation each day!

As a reminder, conferences with the principal and classroom teachers should be arranged ahead of time when possible. This is to avoid conflicts with previously scheduled appointments for students and parents.

Parents, your continued support in prioritizing attendance is greatly appreciated and contributes to a smooth and successful educational experience for your child. It is imperative that students attend school the entire day unless they have an appointment. Frequent tardies or early check outs affects the quality of instruction your child will receive. If you have any questions or concerns, please contact the school.

As a reminder, all transportation changes need to be made by 2:00 each day to ensure that notes are given to students when needed. In emergency situations, exceptions can be made.

All students in Grades K-3rd have to have someone waiting for them at the bus stop in the afternoons. If there is no one at the bus stop waiting, the student will be brought back to the school. Students who are brought back to school in the afternoons by a bus and do not have a ride waiting for them at the school will be placed in after school care. There is a drop in fee for students placed into after school care.

We look forward to a wonderful week at Oakwood. Oakwood Cardinals, let’s fly into a great week of learning!

📚✨ April 2026 is School Library Month! School libraries play such an important role in our communities—helping students explore new ideas, find the information they need, and discover books they love. Join us in celebrating: 📖 April 4 – National School Librarian Day.

We want to celebrate Mrs. Haney not only today but every day! Mrs. Haney is the constant supporter of all our Cardinals. Not only is she our media specialist but she is also the Battle of the Books sponsor, the Jr. Beta Club sponsor, the school testing coordinator, AIG lead teacher, on many committees… the list goes on and on. Oakwood is blessed to have Mrs. Haney on staff- she truly is one in a million!!

Congratulations to Mrs. Julia Fair for receiving the Making a Difference Award for the month of April.

When Ms. Thomas passed the award along to her, this is what she said: "I am honored to pass this award on to someone who takes the opportunity to see the potential in each of our students. She is brave to lead an afterschool club of over 60 students along with the help and dedication of some also very brave staff members. Mrs. Fair is dedicated, deliberate and thorough. She learns our students’ strengths and how to best challenge them. She makes sure every student is heard through the magic of making music. Congratulations, Mrs. Fair, in making a difference at Oakwood."

Ms. Lemke’s class had a fun activity for math today. They had to hunt their groups’ eggs outside and then use them in a math reasoning activity to the one “lucky egg” that would get them their prize. Cardinals keep flying into greatness!!
