Here are two art pieces and some words from a YC graduating senior, Shirley Foster.

“Art has meaning, it has life. It is much more than simple drawing or even painting it’s memories and pleasurable times. The teachers of art are just as important as the art itself because they teach how to do art and how it’s meaningful and unique. In my years at school I took Ceramics (that was fun and messy) and I learned a lot and enjoyed it. I also did Graphic Design and made a surreal landscape and a Self Portrait. It was so fun! I also did sculpting where it was again hands on but with wire and that was just as fun, but I wouldn’t have been able to do it without the support and help from my teacher Ms. Schaljo. She was a big help and she was supportive and understanding and when she taught it wasn’t fast and confusing it was in a way I could understand and if I didn’t understand she would clear it up for me. She made sure if I needed extra time that she was available she went out of her way to make sure she could help not just me but other students as well. In summary Art and it’s teachers are important not because it’s simple because art can get as complex as you want it to, but it also strikes imagination and helps people find who they are. The teachers make a difference and have a big impact. Art should, in my opinion, be in every school because it’s so much more than a paintbrush to paper. Art has meaning and a message that it wants to send Sometimes it’s abstract and up to the viewer to figure out the message. Sometimes the artist puts the message in the art but every piece of art tells a story and has a message... you just have to look to find it and that's what I have learned through being in the art classes I have taken and why I think Art and it’s teachers are important.” - Shirley Foster

Hello :)
As you might have heard, the Art Program is in threat of going away in this next school year. Our Union is reaching out to you advocating for support of the arts. We know Yamhill Carlton cares about the arts, so we are asking all who support the arts to gather together and share stories about how art has impacted their lives. Together we can produce change. Let's show our support and save the arts in our community.
