Most people say they support freedom.
And most people genuinely believe it.

Freedom is fine…
until there’s fear.
Until there’s risk.
Until there’s a problem someone promises to fix.

Then it becomes
“just this one thing”
“just for safety”
“just for fairness”
“just for the children”

Each exception feels reasonable on its own.
Each one sounds compassionate.
Each one feels temporary.

But stacked together, they quietly erase the very thing people claim to value.

Freedom doesn’t disappear all at once.
It disappears through a thousand well intentioned carve outs.
Always framed as necessary.
Always framed as moral.
Always framed as urgent.

By the time people notice what’s gone, they’re already defending the system that took it.

Freedom with exceptions isn’t freedom.
