An organization of Charlotte Mason-minded homeschooling families that exist to facilitate community

03/29/2026

Save the Date! The Charlotte Mason Northwest (CMNW) Team is organizing a one-day symposium May 16th at St. George with the help of the St. George Learning Center. Focusing on the foundations of Charlotte Mason’s philosophy, this symposium will be a great deep-dive for those newer to a CM education. It will also be an excellent place for experienced CM educators who need a refreshing dose of why they are doing all these things and reminders of truths they may have laid by in the frantic flow of life. Come be encouraged and be an encouragement!

Registration and further details will be available in the beginning of April through an upcoming email and the CMNW website (https://www.charlottemasonnw.org/). All questions can be directed to the CMNW team at [email protected]. We look forward to brightening your May as we all get grounded and connected in this Charlotte Mason Primer!

Our recent symposium in Kirkland, WA was a blessing to over 50 Charlotte Mason educators. Attendees said that homeschooling for the long haul now felt doable to them. Let us know if you would like to host symposium in your area.

The latest volume of Sound Harbor should be in your email inbox! Dive in and discover the labor and awe of the construction of actual cathedrals. Sit in the great thoughts of PNEU speaker and ex-student of the House of Education, RA Pennethorne (who penned the beautiful quote above), on the purpose and result of Charlotte Mason’s educational approach. Wrestle with the brilliantly communicated speech of James Garfield in a time of great political and national upheaval. (So useful for our own time!) Get a peek into the school timetables of yours truly, the CMNW Leadership Team.

All this and more to uplift you in your daily work! Find it at our website here: https://www.charlottemasonnw.org/magazine

Sarah Dale is a second-generation homeschooling mom. With her loving husband’s support, she homeschooled both her daughter and son for their entire education through high school. She discovered Charlotte Mason when her kids were in first and third grade. Mason’s philosophy of education deeply resonated with everything she knew to be true about the learning process. She is excited to share what she and her children have learned along the way and to encourage everyone on their homeschool journey.

Come hear Sarah share about what homeschooling all the way through high school looks like in her talks:

-The Atmosphere, Discipline, and Life of a Writer

-From the Driver’s Seat to the Passenger’s Seat

Karissa Strovas has been home educating and living a life steeped in stories alongside her children for over 17 years. Her brood of seven children span a fifteen year age range and a wide array of interests, so she always has her toes in multiple parenting seasons and perpetual adventures. She is on a continual quest to be a worthy “guide, philosopher and friend” for each of her precious people. Along with two friends, she founded a local homeschool co-op 8 years ago where she and her family continue to enjoy the “wide and generous feast” of Charlotte Mason in community with others.

Come hear Karissa’s plenary The Uphill Road: Nourishment for the Journey. We can’t wait to have her share her wisdom with us.

We’re hosting a one-day symposium in Kirkland, WA about the whole Charlotte Mason homeschool journey and how it culminates with those final years before your student moves on to their next stage of life.

Are you staring down those high school years and wondering if you can do it? Do certain topics like science labs and formal essays, transcript credits and GPAs, electives and literary analysis, leave you sweating? Do you wonder about how your relationship with your child (and your own sanity and self worth) are going to survive?

Or are you in the earlier years, wanting to see the big picture? Do you wonder if the things you’re doing now are actually going to bring about the end results you’re hoping for? Do you want practical encouragement and tips from those who are further on the journey?

It is so easy to gather up fears in your heart and worries in your mind when it comes to homeschooling all the way through the upper years. This symposium has been created by a team that seeks to replace those fears with peace and those worries with confidence. Come be washed in truth, redirected with fresh thoughts, supported with resources, and loved in community.

We hope to see you at “The Uphill Road”!

Volume 5 | Fall 2025 A Cozy Holiday
Truly, this magazine volume epitomizes the joyful contentment and warm happiness of shared ideas and experiences. Love yourself and your family enough to make a few minutes to gather with your family and read a few of these articles together. You’ll be encouraged by the conversations and ideas that draw you together. A sweet sample:
“It’s never too late to try something new. Remember Grandma Moses...” Don’t know Grandma Moses? Boy have you been missing out!
“God gave us the harvest, a time of plenty and vibrant colors to remind us that our toil is not in vain. There is a reward for the long, arduous days...winter’s rest.” Don’t see winter as a time of rest? Let this change your perspective.
The secret to the perfect pickle... I’ve never had a desire to try pickling, until now! This whimsical story will leave your imagination smiling.
