Thoughts on entertaining your child from a daycare provider/homeschool Mom:
This is more difficult for children than you think, it’s hard to recreate their daily routine at home. Instead, make a fun routine and get them involved!
Avoid arguing and fighting with your children, as changed routines can be stressful for everyone. When things aren’t going well it may be time to change activities or switch off with another parent.
Be flexible! This is a new territory for everyone.
Play:
Let play happen! If fights breakout, wait to see if siblings can work it out. Ask them what they can do to solve the issue. This is a great time to learn how to deal with others.
Space:
Make sure everyone has their own space when they need it. Having an exclusive, sibling free place for each child can allow your child to get much needed alone/quiet time.
Boredom:
it’s okay!!! With boredom becomes great creativity.
Outside is a great place to start when your child says they are bored, especially with spring popping up all around us. Go on a nature hunt, have your child look for flowers popping up, listen to birds, make twig creations while helping clean the yard.
Inside:
When it gets rainy this week-
Make helping with laundry a game, show them how the vacuum works, bake, let them take everything out of a drawer and then help organize and put it back.
Stuffed Animal zoo, parade, pet hospital, diner,
Prince/princess/ favorite character dress up, do their nails, hair, have a photo shoot!
Take out spring clothes have a fashion show
Make a blanket fort, rearrange the living room
Watch a movie/act out a story/sing together
Read! Try to read one book a day together.
Older kids:
If they like online gaming, find a game and see if their friends can play as well so they are still communicating with friends.
See if they can Skype/FaceTime their friends
