Friends,
We are approaching closing weekend for our 22-23 season with the comedy VANYA AND SONYA AND MASHA AND SPIKE. The show is hilarious and we have two more nights for you to come enjoy it with us Friday and Saturday at 8 PM.
This version of the Cardinal Theatre will close its doors to the Worthington community for the next few years. Part of that time we will be housed in different areas at Thomas Worthington, and a large portion of that time we will be moving back-and-forth from venues like a modern day. Commedia dell’Arte troupe.
Many of you are community members in Worthington who have enjoyed the Cardinal Theater productions as a patron simply as a community member who enjoys theatre. Many of you were friends with thespians, and you may not have been on or backstage, but you cheered the thespians on from the audience. Many of you are parents who viewed each night of a full two weekend run of a show, for years…you probably got to the point where you started memorizing the lines in the show too. Many of you are former Cardinal Theatre alum who worked tireless hours on every show, struggled to figure out how and when to get homework done through rehearsal, and you forged lifelong friendships on this stage…in some way you all know just how important this weekend is.
The theatre alums might remember that first April or May rehearsal where you got out just in time to see a little bit of light before what is actually considered night time, and you felt the temperature teetering between 65 and 70° and somewhere in your head the thought of the oh-so-close summer gave you a sense of relief. Shortly after that, you felt the slow steady understanding that this was almost over.
Many of you were probably aware that we are having a theater farewell event on May 27. We hope to see you there. That is why this closing is so special. The cast and crew of the show deserve a proper sendoff just like any final show, but since we are closing our doors to a space that has been home for so many people over the years I think it would be great to see a wonderful comedy in here one last time. Let’s give this group, this year, and this place an apropos final moment.
I hope you join us this weekend! Please visit our box office at www.twhstheatre.org
I’m going to attach a few of my favorite memories and moments from shows over the years from my time at Thomas Worthington. I know that there are many more memories and shows that came while before me, if you would like to share some of yours, please post them here.
Thank you for your patronage and we hope to see you either this weekend or on May 27.
