The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration (NOAA) warns that this year’s El Niño could be one of the strongest ever recorded — with sea surface temperatures rising more than two degrees Celsius and triggering major disruptions across Pacific fisheries.

Biology Professor Deborah Robertson of Clark's School of Climate, Environment, and Society, spoke with Inside Climate News about what the weather phenomenon, exacerbated by human-caused climate change, could mean for marine ecosystems.

“The thing that keeps me up at night is the fact that this El Niño is coming when the oceans have already warmed,” she said. “The potential detrimental impacts are going to be tremendously bad.”

Five members of Professor Don Spratt's chemistry and biochemistry lab recently attended the 40th Protein Society Symposium, held in Boston July 19-22. 🧬

The Protein Society's annual conference covers a broad range of protein science, combining critical underpinnings of the field, the latest developments, and a vision into the future with technical workshops and career development and networking opportunities.

The Spratt Lab has attended the annual meeting since 2018. This year's attendees included Biochemistry & Molecular Biology students Maryam Riyazi, Ph.D. '27; Siobhan Connolly '26, M.S. 27; Lauren Merrikin '26, M.S. '27; Myles Realejo '26, M.S. '27; and Marina Sako '26, M.S. '27.

Riyazi earned a Graduate Student Poster Award and Connolly received an Undergraduate Poster Award during the conference. Congratulations to these accomplished Clarkies! 👏

Last week, nearly 100 participants from the Girls Inc of Worcester Eureka! Program spent four days on the Clark campus working with faculty, attending professional development workshops led by Clark staff, and experiencing a taste of college life.

Throughout the week, Clark professors introduced participants to different STEM fields, research questions, and career paths. Participants asked questions, worked through problems, tested ideas, and considered how science can be used to address real-world challenges.

The Clark University School of Business has once again been named one of the nation’s outstanding business schools by The Princeton Review! 🏆

CUSB was included in The Princeton Review's Best Business Schools for 2027 rankings, and the on-campus Master of Business Administration program was named one of the best in the country. Congratulations to Lawrence Bolduc ’17, who recently stepped into the role of University Librarian at the Robert H. Goddard Library at Clark University. 📚👏

Since joining the Goddard Library team in 2018, Bolduc has served in several key positions — most recently leading instruction, research, and access. In this next chapter, he’s focused on strengthening the library’s role as both a conduit for knowledge and “a full intellectual partner” for every member of the Clark community.

“The goal is to figure out what we know and what we don’t know; what perspectives have we explored and what haven’t we yet?" he says. "That’s the sort of work that motivates me and that I find really exciting.”

What does the journey to adulthood look like today?

Jeffrey Jensen Arnett, a senior research scholar at Clark, joined Annie E. Casey Foundation President and CEO Lisa Lawson on the latest episode of CaseyCast to discuss emerging adulthood, the developmental stage between adolescence and established adulthood that he first identified through his research.

Their conversation examines how the transition to adulthood has evolved over the past several decades and why today's young people often face a longer, more complex path as they pursue education, careers, relationships and independence. Student-run Clark Consulting GIS team delivers for Wildlife Conservation Society A cohort of Clarkies served as GIS consultants for the Wildlife Conservation Society this spring, building on the 2025 work of students who created a dashboard that WCS staff use to analyze environmental trends and conservation impacts.

Clark University has been awarded $27 million from the U.S. Department of Labor to expand high-quality Registered Apprenticeship opportunities in information technology — funding that will help program sponsors hire and retain new apprentices who otherwise might not have access to these career paths.
