Countdown to Kindergarten at Polar Park!

Join us for Countdown to Kindergarten on Monday, August 24 from 4:00 to 6:30 PM at Polar Park.

Countdown to Kindergarten is a day to help your child (and you!) prepare for their first year of school. Enjoy hands-on, family-friendly activities, receive free books and other learning materials, and get your questions answered directly by WPS early childhood staff.

Complimentary parking will be available in the LAZ Madison Street Parking Lot located at 25 Madison Street.

Additional details and event tickets will be mailed to families & caregivers with a registered kindergarten student for the 2026–27 school year.

Children and their families will:

🥦 Learn about healthy eating
🏃‍♂️ Play the "Lunch Tray Relay"

⚕️Worcester Public Schools students participated in "Day in the Life: OB-GYN" at UMass Chan Medical School!

🏥They joined about 100 students from 20 area high schools to learn what it's like to be a caregiver in obstetrics and gynecology.

Participating schools included Doherty, North, South, and Worcester Technical high schools, and University Park Campus School.

🍎 Summer Eats Is Serving Up Smiles! ☀️

We’ve been visiting some of our Summer Eats locations across Worcester and seeing the program in action! From nutritious meals to friendly faces, it’s great to see our community coming together to keep kids and teens fueled all summer long. 🥪🍏

🪴 State officials and local partners view Worcester Public Schools outdoor gardens

🍅 Officials from the Massachusetts Department of Fish and Game and the Regional Environmental Council, Inc., of Worcester, on Friday visited Elm Park Elementary School’s outdoor garden — one of several that benefitted recently from a $56,000 state grant.

The funding, through the Community Biodiversity Grant Program, expanded 10 existing pollinator gardens and resulted in the installation of 5 new gardens in the city, primarily at schools.

The project included planting more than 40 native perennial species to increase biodiversity, sustain pollinator populations, improve soil health, strengthen urban ecosystem resilience, and connect communities to nature.

Additional schools that benefitted from the grant were Tatnuck, Rice Square, Wawecus, Jacob Hiatt, Flagg Street, Goddard, Clark Street, North High, Worcester Technical High, and Vernon Hill.
