When Pop Art and National Hamburger Day collide! 🍔

Claes Oldenburg transformed everyday objects into monumental works of art, and few subjects captured his imagination quite like food. His 1962 hamburger study reflects the playful, larger-than-life spirit that helped define the Pop Art movement.

Frank Juárez, SchoolArts editor-in-chief and art department chair in Sheboygan, Wisconsin, worked with the Sheboygan North and South High School art departments to host their first collaborative community art project—a steamroller printmaking event.

In "Steamroller Printmaking: Collaboration in Action," in our May issue, explore how students and staff produced bold, large-scale relief prints using a steamroller press.

"It is essential to provide students with varied art experiences that will continue to shape their appreciation, understanding, and engagement with the creative process, community, and collaboration." —Frank Juárez

If you’ve ever introduced an art project and been met with “What am I supposed to draw?” - you’re not alone. Getting students started is one thing. Getting them invested is another. That’s where a theme-based approach can help.

Instead of positioning yourself as the source of answers, create opportunities for students to look closely, think deeply, and make meaning for themselves.
