WPI High Powered Rocketry Club

WPI's 2023 Giving Day has come to an end, and HPRC would like to take time to thank our 192 donors this year! Because of you, we were number one for number of donors and money raised - at over $14,000 after bonuses - and we were so close to Aunika winning the pie-in-the-face challenge! The money you all raised will go towards keeping our club moving forward and giving our members more and more opportunities to develop their skills - and we're looking forward to seeing it pay off as we work towards our competition this summer!

WPI's Giving Day 2023 has begun! To help HPRC blast off to our goals (and the top of the Giving Day scoreboard), you can donate at https://givingday.wpi.edu/pages/home-2179?referral_id=64ff8353b8426b23deecb991 =true ! Select High Power Rocketry Club under the "Search Funds" box, and input how much you want to give (the minimum to count towards additional objectives is $5). If you want to, you can even elect to donate towards the goal of throwing a pie at our team captain, Aunika Yasui! Donations are open from now until 7:05 PM tomorrow.

We're excited to announce that this year's Giving Day was a massive success! We were able to reach well beyond our fundraising goal and now have the funds to purchase new materials and equipment, a test bed for this year's rocket, and send our students to the 2023 IREC competition! Last week, WPI HPRC competed in the 2022 Spaceport America Cup in New Mexico! Our team spent the week preparing for the launch and presenting our designs to judges and other teams. Unfortunately, the rocket experienced a critical failure during ascent, causing it to tumble and break apart. We are in the process of determining what happened and plan to use the experience to grow for next year. Despite this, we are proud to announce that we were awarded the Sportsmanship Award. Thank you to ESRA, the sponsors, and everyone who made this competition possible! We'll see you all next year!

On Saturday, our team launched our 2021 USLI rocket in St. Albans! It reached a height of 5715 ft and the team successfully tested our single-end deployment system and our ground station. Looking forward to our next full-scale launch at IREC in June!

Last night, the team hosted our first ever Project Presentation Night! We presented on the progress of our rocket and payload to sponsors, faculty, and other supporters and answered questions in a Q&A session afterwards. Thank you to everyone who came and those who have supported us this year. Special thanks to Provost Soboyejo for his speech!

The team held our internal design review this past weekend where subteams shared their designs and received feedback from other members of the team. Thank you to all who presented and stay tuned for more updates soon!

We are proud to announce we have been accepted into the Intercollegiate Rocket Engineering Competition (IREC) at the 2022 Spaceport America Cup! We will be competing in the 10k COTS category. Thank you so much to our mentors and sponsors for your support!
