Ascension High School, Class of 1967

Ascension High School was a four-year Catholic High School for girls run by the Sisters of Notre Dame. Some act of defiance, certainly!

We were the Class of '67, and for reasons NO ONE can remember, we began calling ourselves "The Flying A's."

Friday, November 22, 1963: A very bad day for Ascension High School and the world.

That morning, the Sisters at our small high school of Ascension received some shockingly bad news: a senior named Anne Marie Riel had been hit by a car outside her home in Leicester while on her way to school.

Anne Marie died.

Everyone was stunned, and the Sisters accompanied the entire school over to the church to pray for our schoolmate.

It was first-page news certainly as the unfortunate driver who hit Anne Marie was a senior at St. Mary's High School right around the corner from Ascension. An incredibly freaky set of events.

Understandably, we were subdued for the rest of the day.

Then, at 1:45 PM, things got impossibly worse when Sister Superior broadcast the radio over the intercom, and we learned that President Kennedy had just been shot in Dallas.

We students were reeling, and Anne Marie's story was moved to page two. Not many events could have done that.

Two photos: the news item about Anne Marie's death and a photo of that day taken just before the shots rang out in Dallas.

How's your memory, Ascension girls?

Hi, Girls,

It is with deep sadness that we share the news of the death of Kate Baker Mullaly Adams.

Kate was with us at our fiftieth reunion EIGHT years ago, and she also attended a mini-reunion four years ago in Wrentham.

Besides Kate's obituary, there are four photos of Kate;

Photo 1 is with Betty Liseno (our "Red Letter Day" if your memory serves) and Photo 2 with Jody Kane are from "entertainments" during our Flying A days! Was there ever a better Captain Von Trapp?

It appears that Kate was ALWAYS involved in entertainments throughout her life.

Photo 3 was taken at our 50th with her good friend Beth Wasgatt Morin, and Photo 4 was from July of 2021.

Please stop and say a prayer for Kate and for us all.

Nearly six decades later, Julie Andrews reunites with 'Sound of Music' cast 06/11/2022

I just KNOW my Ascension '67 classmates would want to hear the "newest" about "The Sound of Music"!

Do you realize WE were sixteen-going-on-seventeen when we put this show (I believe the nuns called it an "entertainment") on for the Seniors?

Nearly six decades later, Julie Andrews reunites with 'Sound of Music' cast In a recent interview, Andrews said the film adaptation of the musical "stayed in people's consciousness all this time. It made a big, big dent in people's psyche."

Hi, Girls and fellow Flying A's! I'd surely rather be posting another turkey dinner photo, but sharp-eyed Jackie made note of this obituary. It seems we've lost another classmate. Very sad. I remember Lynn as a good sport and a lot of fun. Let's say a prayer for her, AND I hope you all are doing well.

Peek-a-boo! Here we are! You knew it was us all the time! AND we were at O'Connor's Restaurant, of course. And we all had the turkey dinner which we generously shared with the wasps. They like cranberry sauce, it appears!
