Educational Association of Worcester EAW is an affiliate of the Massachusetts Teachers Association and the National Education Association

The Educational Association of Worcester is the largest local of the Massachusetts Teachers Association. We have 3100 members in 5 bargaining units: Teachers and Group B Administrators, Education Support Professionals, Bus Drivers, Parent Liaisons, and ESL Tutors. Join EAW members Thursday at 6:00PM for School Committees Open Session portion of their Meeting. Meetings are held in the Esther Howland South Chamber of Worcester City Hall, 455 Main St. Members will be speaking out against banning student and educator rights to expression and pride in culture and community and identities.

For the Worcester School Committee to establish a formal district policy governing
the display of flags on school grounds and within municipally controlled public school
buildings. Specifically, I request that the School Committee enact a policy to prohibit
the flying or displaying of any flag on public school premises that is not an official
governmental banner or recognized military/veteran remembrance banner, restricted
exclusively to:
1. The national flag of the United States of America
2. The official flag of the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
3. The official flag of the City of Worcester
4. The official National League of Families POW/MIA flag
EXCEPTIONS CLAUSE:
This policy shall not apply to flags or banners used temporarily for direct classroom
instruction (including, but not limited to, world history, geography, or foreign
language classes), official school sports and spirit flags, or recognized U.S. military
branch flags.
REASON FOR PETITION:
To establish symbolic uniformity, reduce community division, and ensure that public
school infrastructure remains focused exclusively on core civic symbols and
educational neutrality.

The EAW has had many educators ask what is going on at the bus yard. The truth is, some EAW Drivers, Monitors and 7D Van drivers think they will be better represented by the Teamsters Local 170. When the EAW transportation contract expired, the Teamsters petitioned the Labor Commission to represent the WPS Transportation Department. The EAW has been representing some WPS Drivers and monitors for 30 years and will continue to do so until a decision is rendered(that will take a vote).
WPS Transportation Bargaining Unit members need to make the choice that is right for them. We believe the EAW is the union that is right for them, we have the same boss, we have the same goals and we have the same clients. There is also a huge difference the dues have on drivers and monitors pockets. Facts are facts. Calling all EAW members to help get the facts out!

Today, EAW Units A/B negotiated with the Worcester Public School district and Superintendent Allen joined us for the first time this negotiation season. Our fabulous SMOs and CAT members got the word out and we turned the room green! Shout out to EAW members and supporters who came out to spend the day with us! At least it was raining so no one missed a final beach day!

"On August 13th, a few weeks away from contract expiration, EAW members rallied at a School Committee meeting and representatives from bargaining units delivered a powerful message to the School Committee and Superintendent Brian Allen.

Tomorrow, on August 17th, he is supposed to make his first appearance at Unit AB Negotiations. Let's fill the room with educators to let him know that we are all watching and united for a fair contract!"
