Today is ! Join us in raising awareness of the 988 Su***de & Crisis Lifeline and reminding people that support is available. You can call or text 988 to receive support 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, 365 days a year. The person you talk to will be trained to help people who are in crisis, especially people who are having suicidal thoughts. You can also call when you’re not in a crisis, but still want support.

A recent study also linked 988 services to decreases in su***de mortality among young people. See below for the full reference.

CAPES is hosting a virtual panel entitled "Artificial Intelligence Innovations in Su***de Prevention", sponsored by our Machine Learning Unit. Come learn how emerging artificial intelligence (AI) technologies are shaping the future of su***de prevention research.

This event will feature three distinguished speakers who will share insights on innovative applications of artificial intelligence, current challenges, and opportunities to improve su***de prevention efforts through responsible and impactful use of AI.

We're excited to announce our September Su***de Prevention Month UMass Department of Psychiatry and Behavioral Sciences Grand Rounds at UMass Chan Medical School.

Lauren Weinstock, PhD will be presenting, her talk is entitled "Moving Beyond the Clinic: Su***de Risk and Prevention Across the Incarceration–Reentry Continuum" on Thursday September 17th, 2026, 12–1 p.m.

Dr. Weinstock is a professor of psychiatry and human behavior at The Warren Alpert Medical School at Brown University, director of training of the Brown Clinical Psychology Internship Training Consortium, and co-director of the Brown T32 Postdoctoral Fellowship in Su***de Research at Butler Hospital in Providence RI.

Notably, Dr. Weinstock is multi-Principal Investigator of the NIMH-funded National Center for Health and Criminal-Legal Systems Integration for Su***de Prevention (NCHATS; P50MH127512), one of our sister P50 Practice Based Su***de Prevention Centers.

Su***de Prevention Month is right around the corner! Support su***de prevention by donating to our annual Out of Darkness walk page and/or signing up to walk with us in Worcester at Polar Park on Saturday September 26th. Registration begins at 9AM and the walk starts at 10:30AM.

Gabby Amarosa, our Out of Darkness walk co-leader and graduate student intern, shares what brings her to walk with CAPES. She is "passionate about access to behavioral healthcare and ensuring that everyone has the resources they need to live a happy, healthy life." She walks in honor of Jerry Fallon.
