Seniors at Bancroft School just wrapped up their Senior Co-Op. During May, students spent a minimum of 50 hours applying their skills in real-world settings and exploring future careers before heading off to college.
This year, students pursued hands-on experiences across the greater community, from sports broadcasting at 98.5 The Sports Hub and game development at Lighthouse Softworks to early cancer detection education at DetecTogether and nature-based education at Turn Back Time.
At Bancroft, learning doesn’t sit still — and Senior Co-Op gives students the opportunity to take what they’ve learned beyond the classroom and into the world around them.
At the conclusion of Co-Op, students gathered to share what they learned, reflect on their experiences, and explore how meaningful work and real-world learning can deepen understanding, strengthen communication, and connect learning to life beyond campus.

Saggar firing is a traditional ceramic technique originally developed to protect delicate wares from the ash and flames of wood-fired kilns. In this process, our clay is placed inside protective refractory clay containers called saggars. While its historical purpose was to shield the wares from our kiln’s environment, contemporary artists use the process in the opposite way: to contain fumes around a pot so that the surface picks up dynamic colors and markings from the combustion of organic materials like hay, sawdust, and vegetation. Our Visual Arts department explored this centuries-old technique, designing forms based on the concept of the skeleton, and fired them during a field trip to Mr. Roche’s studio. The results were vibrant, expressive and unpredictably unique.
