First Real Snowstorm Of The Season On The Way:
Snow is already overspreading Connecticut as we speak. It will continue to work into the region overnight and be at its peak in early morning.

Some mixing will take place in eastern mass near the coast and along the cape and island.
This being said, everyone does see accumulation from this one.

I am in strong agreement with the Boston National Weather Service. You can find their snowfall map below. This being said 2-4 inches along the immediate eastern coast and 4-8 inches for everyone else. I do expect some 10 inch amounts in the Worcester hills and Berkshires. This will extend into northwest CT as well.

I do not advise anyone travels early tomorrow morning. The roads will be slippery and the visibility will be low.
Stay safe!

A severe thunderstorm watch is now in effect for all of southern New England until 8pm tonight.
Threats for damaging winds and large hail exist. There is a the low potential for an isolated tornado as well.
Please keep an eye out for warnings from the national weather service as storms develop today.

Stay safe and have a great afternoon!

Severe Thunderstorm Watch for the entire region except for southern RI and southeast mass.

Areas especially across CT, Central and western mass are at risk for severe storms today.

These storms may include damaging winds, large hail and isolated tornadoes. Please keep an eye out for any warnings from the national weather service.

Stay safe!

Snow Today:

Some snow will overspread the region during the day today.
With a high sun angle, not expecting a lot of heavy accumulation on the roads, but slippery travel is still possible. Especially later this evening on untreated surfaces.
On grassy surfaces expect a general 1-3 inches of snow. The higher terrain may see isolated higher amounts.
Overall this is just a nuisance event.

Have a good day!

Winter storm on the way for Friday:

Later tonight and early morning tomorrow, heavy snow will overspread the region.

North of they mass pike, this is a pure snow event. South of the mass pike and into northern CT and Northern RI will deal with a snow/sleet mix.

Within 15 miles of the south coast and also the cape and islands will have some rain/sleet mixed in as well.

Accumulations:
Along and north of the mass pike including Worcester and Boston can expect 8-12 inches of snow.

South of the pike and into northern/central CT and northern RI along with interior southeast mass can expect a general 4-7 inch snow.

The south coast and within 15 miles of it, can expect 2-5 inches of snow and this includes Cape Cod as well.

Snow will become heavy fast especially along and north of the mass pike. Plan accordingly if traveling.

This will also bring a good snow for the ski areas in southern VT through central NH.

Have a great evening everyone!

An icy mess on the way for many of us:

Rain is currently overspreading the area this afternoon. Overnight temps will start to drop.

In the morning early on temps will be above freezing but crash into the 20s and eventually teens by evening.

There will be a period of freezing rain followed by sleet across a lot of the area.

Interior areas away from the coast but south of the mass pike may get a coating to an inch of sleet with a light glaze. Also whatever water/moisture is on the roadways May freeze up by afternoon.

Along and north of the pike, there may be some localized areas that get a good accretion of ice. Perhaps up to 4 tenths of an inch. This could lead to isolated power outages. This area could also see 1-3 inches of sleet. More of the sleet will be closer to the NH border. Roads in this area will become a mess. Use caution if traveling in this area tomorrow.

Along the south coast and cape, mostly a rain event. This may end as some sleet though. Regardless temps will drop below freezing in this area late afternoon and evening so there may be some slick spots on untreated surfaces.

Stay safe and have a good evening!

❄️❄️Weekend Storm Snowfall Prediction ❄️❄️

While some uncertainty still remains, it’s clear there is a significant winter storm on the way for our region.
These amounts will be subject to change, and if necessary I will adjust them tomorrow.
The storm will begin early Saturday morning and continue through the day.

As of now this is what I am thinking with amounts:

Western CT and western mass west of the CT River can expect a general 6-12” of powdery snow. (Higher elevations of berkshire county may have isolated 15” totals)

Eastern half of CT along west west central mass west of Worcester I expect 12-20 inches.

The rest of Massachusetts from Worcester eastward and all of RI will see 15-24 inches with isolated higher amounts where banding sets up.
Cape cod may have a wetter consistency so amounts may be on the lower end of these totals around 15”.

Someone may get 30+ inches out of this wherever the strongest band sets up and the location of this band is something I am trying to narrow down still. Hopefully I’ll have more answers on this in the morning.

Another concern is strong winds. Blizzard conditions may be possible across eastern parts of the region. Those strong winds may results in some power outages, so please plan accordingly.

Lastly, coastal flooding will be a major concern especially in eastern mass. Please evacuate if told to do so.

I will have updates tomorrow as necessary.

Have a good night everyone!

❄️ Weekend storm update ❄️

Uncertainty still lies but models have shifted slightly west so far today meaning the threat for significant snow is increasing. Especially across eastern areas.
I am going through more data and will have my forecast snowfall accumulations this evening.

Weekend storm: At this point it’s still early but while the cape may see some decent snows.. I think the storm may be mostly out to sea.

I will update tomorrow as this could easily
Change but this is where I currently stand.

Winter storm on the way for tonight and MLK Day:

For many this will me mostly a rain event. A burst of snow later tonight will quickly turn into rain. A coating to 2 inches for many.

Areas across the higher terrain of central and western mass along with northwest CT May see a more prolonged period of wetter snow before even they switch to rain. This can amount to 4-8 inches, and perhaps even a few isolated higher totals.
There may be some scattered power outages in that area as well from the weight of the snow.

For the areas close to the coast, it’s possible we see very strong wind gusts up to 65mph along with the rain. This May also cause scattered outages.

One last thing to mention, coastal flooding will become an issue. This is especially true along the CT south coast where a coastal flood warning is in effect. Keep that in mind if you live right along the ocean and heed any guidance from government officials.

Stay safe and have a good holiday!

Freezing rain for some:

Please use caution out there today in northern and western CT along with central and western mass.

Rain is falling and temps are near freezing. It is creating some icy roadways. I don’t expect a major ice storm but it is enough to make the roads a mess.
The berkshires May see over a quarter of an inch of ice accretion. The rest of the mentioned area about a tenth of an inch.

Stay safe and have a good Sunday!

A wide range of snowfall totals across the area so far. The biggest appear to be in eastern CT, northern RI and eastern mass close to Boston.
Seeing some reports near a foot of snow.
