Michiyo Fukaya captured her honest and raw accounts of pain in poetry and prose to help others - and herself - find inner power.
As a biracial, single mother, cut off from her Japanese heritage, she often felt she was caught between worlds.
As she struggled to achieve economic stability throughout her life, she used all her remaining energy to share her experience and champion intersectional inclusion for other q***r Asian individuals.

As we head into Memorial Day Weekend, I'm celebrating Dr. Margaret "Mom" Chung - the first American-born Chinese woman to become a doctor.
However, she is most well known for the thousand of adopted "sons," soldiers she supported in the Sino-Japanese War and World War II.

Healthcare is a human right that should not be determined by your zip code.
Community health centers were born out of the Civil Right Movement, ensuring that access to culturally-responsive care was accessible in under-resourced communities, from inner cities to rural villages.
On May 7, I joined my colleagues at Family Health Center of Worcester for Healthy Ever After, which uplifts community resilience through storytelling and art.
The room was filled with individuals who are committed to preserving healthcare as a fundamental right despite the government's attempts to determine who deserves care and what services are considered valid. We raised over $70,000 from sponsors and individual donors, but also inspired a community to continuously re-commit and deepen their support of their neighbors.
My grants management work at FHCW is a core part of my portfolio career and lifelong commitment to equity and authentic inclusion. It was a privilege to share that spirit with others during Healthy Ever After.

Noguchi Yonejirō "Yone" was influential in bringing Japanese-influenced poetry and prose to the English-speaking world.
However, he never felt fully understood or appreciated by his American and English peers.
(Though he did leave quite a scandal in his wake when he left the U.S.!)

When we think of the American West, we tend to think of strict gender binaries.
The Washington State History Museum wanted to change that.
The 2021 exhibit, Crossing Boundaries, shared the stories of gender non-conforming people from 1860 to 1940 in the wild West.
Curator Gwen Whiting worked with author Peter Boag to bring his book to life for this exhibit, which now travels throughout the Pacific Northwest to bring q***r stories to more communities.
