That's one of the messages University of Missouri's Ben Brown shared during a lightning talk at the 2026 Midwest Extension Farm Management and Outlook Conference in Lexington, Kentucky. Ben highlighted how From the Ground Up's farmer-led model keeps research focused on the agronomic and economic outcomes farmers care about when implementing conservation practices.

Sakthi is a Research Associate Professor of Soil Sciences and Agronomy at Central State University. As an "along-sider" to producers, his research focuses on machine learning and remote sensing to measure the impact of conservation practices.

Spend a day with From the Ground Up interns, Rosaria and Trinity!

During their 10-week internship program, Rosaria and Trinity were trained to scout for diseases in corn and soybean plants. FTGUp farmers in Central Ohio are researching the impact of different fungicide use practices, so each week our interns travelled to farms in Central Ohio, recording disease incidence and severity so that the farmers can assess how each of the treatment zones are affected.

Last week, the From The Ground Up team, including farmers from across Ohio, and researchers from Central State University and The Ohio State University, came together for a farm tour focused on learning, innovation, and collaboration.

A huge thank you to Donee Boykin (Endigo's Herbals & Organics) and Cheryl Wheeler (Efinity Harvest ) for hosting and leading an incredible tour of the Trotwood Incubator Site. Participants had the opportunity to learn about the farmer-led research being conducted at the site, as Donee and Cheryl shared insights into their group's work, research goals, and experiences in the field. Their expertise and passion for sustainable agriculture made the evening both educational and inspiring.

Here's to growing knowledge, strengthening partnerships, and advancing farmer-led research! 🌱
