Part 1 on March 14 will be from 9:30 until 11:30 a.m. and will focus on pruning fruit trees including apple and peach. Part 2 will be held later that same day from 1-2:30 p.m. and will cover small fruits like grapes and raspberries.

The years continue to just roll by while the industry continues to grow at a rapid pace! That being said the OGIC, as well as our partners at OSU and KSU know that we are only as strong and successful as our industry stakeholders, therefore we need your help!

We’ve created the FY24-30 Extension + Research Prioritization Survey at the link below to gather your input regarding enology and viticulture priorities in Ohio over the next few years. We’re asking that you please take 10 minutes of your valuable time to complete this survey, so that we can better address the needs of the industry. The feedback provided will help us craft the Requests for Proposals (RFPs) for future enology and viticulture extension programming and research projects.

Remember, the survey is only as valuable as the information that you provide, so please review and complete, no later than Friday, February 24, 2023.

2022 Pre-Christmas Freeze and Impact on Grapevines in Ohio (by I. Dami, HCS-OSU)

In addition to buds being killed, vines with freeze injury are weakened and more susceptible to diseases. Keep this in mind while pruning and implement best pruning practices to reduce the risk of infections.

On December 23-24, Ohio experienced the coldest temperatures of the year 2022. Temperature lows ranged between 3F and -13F (see map). Statewide, the lowest temperatures occurred in West central Ohio and ranged between -9 F and -13F. In central Ohio, minimum temperatures ranged between -5F and -10F.....
