It's a Slow Cooker kind of summer! In this free cooking class for adults ages 18+, we will be using the library's mobile kitchen cart to learn some basic knife-cutting skills and prepare fresh vegetables from the local Farmer's Market to freeze now and cook later in your own slow cooker. Registration info is listed on the photo. Class size is limited and only a few spots remain. Cuisine à La Carte is an educational cooking program offered by the Woonsocket Library. Funding for the mobile kitchen cart is provided by the Rhode Island Office of Library and Information Services (OLIS) using funds received from the Institute of Museum and Library Services (IMLS) through the American Rescue Plan Act (ARPA). Dear WED Community,
Tragically, today we have heard the news of yet another school shooting in our country. Our hearts and prayers go out to the families of all of the innocent victims in Uvalde, Texas. Undoubetedly, the news of this unimaginable tragedy will have an affect on students and staff throughout the country and in the Woonsocket Education Department.
Please know that this evening we have communicated with our principals, social workers, school counselors, and mental health support staff to be prepared and on-call to support students and staff who may be frightened, shaken or saddened by this tragedy when they return to school tomorrow and throughout the week. If your child(ren) are experiencing trauma from this incident, please contact your student's teacher, social worker, or principal so that we can best support them.
The safety of our students and staff are of the utmost importance. Therefore, please know that the Woonsocket Education Department does have district safety procedures and protocols that are practiced regularly at each school campus, and are reviewed yearly by the school administration, district administration, and school resource officers to ensure the safety of all students and staff.
Please keep the victims and their families in your thoughts and prayers.

Dear WED Families,
Just a reminder that Wednesday, May 11, 2022 is the final District-Wide Professional Development Day for all teachers and staff in the WED. As a result, this Wednesday will be an asynchronous distance learning day for all students. This counts as a day of school for all students. Therefore, please ensure that your child(ren) bring their Chromebooks home on Tuesday afternoon as teachers will post assignments for the day on Google Classroom and on slide decks. Teachers and staff will not be available to interact directly with students as they will be in professional development sessions throughout the day. Thank you in advance for your cooperation.
Sincerely,
Patrick McGee, Ed.D.

What a ride😎 James will be missed. For those who don’t know; James was an intern with us over the last few months. Covid canceled his time with us back in January.
James made a triumphant return this past week, filled with laughs, hard work and lots of passion for customer service😊
Everyone join Michael and his family in thanking James ❤️🤍💙
See you down the road James 👋
Internships give us so much!!
No school today and no distance learning!
Last minute distance learning today due to strong smell of natural gas in the area. Google Meets are set up in the Classroom-I've updated today's stream.

What did you have for lunch today?!? 😋
As per the RI Department of Education school calendar, there is No School for students and staff on Thursday, May 13th, with respect to the Eid al-Fitr holiday, also called the “Festival of Breaking the Fast”. This special holiday marks the end of the month-long, dawn-to-sunset fasting of Ramadan. Happy holiday to our families celebrating in the Novan community. Enjoy the day with family.
Also, Monday, May 17th, is a Professional Day for staff. Lessons will be available in each student's Google Classrooms for them to complete but teachers will not be available for meets. Students will not be attending school in-person on this day.

Today we celebrate the first day of National Park Week with Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park! The nine-day celebration runs through Sunday, April 25, with a new theme each day!
Today's theme is ParkRx Day. Give yourself the gift of good health by finding wellness in the great outdoors on International Park Prescription (ParkRx) Day.
To celebrate both ParkRx Day and National Poetry Month, we're sharing this poem by volunteer Patti McAlpine, also Blackstone Valley Tourism Council's Marketing Associate. Patti wrote this poem and took the photo while walking at the Lonsdale Marsh along the Blackstone River Bikeway in Lincoln, RI.
Coincidentally, the Blackstone River Watershed Council is hosting a cleanup at the Lonsdale Marsh today until noon. If you'd like to lend a hand, the meeting spot is at the bikeway parking area at 125 John Street (Route 123), Lincoln, RI. Look for the famous Lonsdale Drive-In sign.
Explore Blackstone River Valley National Historical Park using our new interactive map at bit.ly/mapBRVNHP and share your adventures with us!

We've been busy and productive in our classroom over the past 2 weeks! Many thanks to WACTC teacher, Phil Jacques, for showing us how to change a tire. One of our students decided that they should make lunch for the teachers and organized the production of a wonderful salad! We checked out the Civil War monument as our Art Experience and went for a walk through River Island Art Park on National Take a Walk in the Park Day. We made Easter cupcakes yesterday to take home to our families (instead of making 200 of them to sell like in previous years!). Happy Easter everyone!

Already asked our administration if we can start doing city clean-ups and we are ready to go! We can't wait to help our city!
No April Fools' jokes here -- it's officially Earth Month! Small acts can make a BIG difference. What are you pledging to do this month to honor the Earth?
