Meet Xiao, a learner at this week’s Adult Education spotlight partner, ! Her journey at RIRAL began in 2015 when she enrolled in ESL classes. After discussing future goals, Xiao realized that if she wanted more than a job, she needed to earn a high school diploma and go to college. The program staff at RIRAL not only helped her overcome her self doubt, they also encouraged Xiao to study for and earn her GED and eventually enroll in RIRAL’s Transition to College program with CCRI. In May 2022, Xiao will finish her Associate’s degree and begin her career as a Medical Laboratory Technician! Congrats to you Xiao!!
Many of RIDE’s Adult Education partners are well-established in their communities. One of those partners, Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning (), has been serving students across the state for 41 years! RIRAL supports adult learners along varying stages of the ABC Career Pathway. Some are looking for (A) job; others a (B)etter job; and yet others a (C)areer. To help students achieve their goals, RIRAL offers instruction in reading, writing, math, English Language learning, and computers and supports students with case management, career counseling, and job readiness services. Visit www.riral.org to learn more about this outstanding community partner.
Be grateful….

TTC includes: Orientation to college success, career exploration, academic classes, mentoring, and case management. Students are dually enrolled in TTC and CCRI, experiencing college first hand at the Flanagan campus in the College Reading course. They prepare for the Accuplacer assessment, which is administered at RIRAL. TTC’s goal is to enable students to transition successfully into college level courses, or at the very least, begin their college career at the upper tier of developmental education. 90 % of our students have English as a second language.
