A 2nd grader performing burpees.

They are in mid-form and it resembles a pushup in this shot, but far from it. This student did 10 of them in a set... with 4 other exercises x5 (at least).

Burpees sound like fun and easy, but try more than 3 consecutively and then share your thoughts and reassess life decisions.

A great exercise and nice to put into a regular workout routine.

There are many variations, so Google "burpee" .....and find the one that works for you!

(Below from February 25th)

Today's classes had students pushing themselves through standard skills in a tougher, self-pacing method.

Incorporated some crossfit rules and the students ate it up.

Why? We struggle as teachers, students and parents to find the time to exercise properly, efficiently .....and effectively. We're always fighting for time. However, when you can't find the time you have to alter the process.

Heavy breathing, lots of drinks of water and tired kids were the result.

Students (3rd through 5th grades) recorded their efforts so they can compare them down the road.

There's been a delay in getting all the media release information for students, so I have not been able to post as many pictures this year of the students doing activities... ......so, some creativity today...

This is a blurred shot of our musical warmup before playing "Matball".

It's a fast-paced, variable skill version of kickball!

We are currently preparing for Field Day which is one week away. Many different games and activities are being practiced and vetted.

While today is rainy and overcast, the forecast for next week is quite pleasant....and each day, the forecasted temps keep rising!

We need water and students to have sunscreen!

In attempt to improve the quality of our recess, we are introducing new and old activities for students to better enjoy and utilize recess....so far, at least from what the pictures say, it's a success!

Rocking the long awaited rhythmic unit. Starting off with basics routines, will be introducing harder routines over the next couple weeks with students taking the lead in creating routines..... the videos should be interesting.....!

While the standard, well-known Olympics are done, the Paralympics are currently on from now until March 18th.

Quite frankly, I enjoy these more than the other games and I love those. For the schedule, check out the NBC link below. Unfortunately, it's not as televised....but just as awesome!

Failure is progress.

The majority of our students are afraid to fail. I used to be afraid to fail too. Sports was the only area where I was willing to try hard and fail because I was most comfortable in that medium. But everywhere else I didn’t try. Fortunately, I had some good role models around me to help me see it differently.

I have been noticing an increase of elementary students who are asking to sit out of activities with the stated reason almost verbatim “I am not good enough” and “I can’t do that”.

Typically, as with my personality, I try to tackle it with humor, redirection and encouragement, but it has been increasing as of late to a point where it is becoming an uncomfortable norm.

Most of the world’s greatest accomplishments are achieved atop mountains of failure. A more accurate statement is that almost any success is preceded by failure, but we like to know about the more dramatic stories so…….

I am sharing two links, first one is a current commercial with U.S. Olympic Skier Lindsey Vonn and the second one from a while ago with Michael Jordan. Both are phenomenal reminders of how we glorify winning and being too concerned about being right, right on target and successful instead of embracing failure as a nature tool for learning.

I hate failing, but I have learned to love overcoming failure and the journey that process takes me on.

If you deem appropriate and you have one of those fringe students, share with them.

Lindsey Vonn isn’t backing down. And she’s ready to set the world on fire. See this Ad this Sunday on NBC - Like us on F...
