Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning

Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning Rhode Island Regional Adult Learning (RIRAL) is a nonprofit adult education agency established in 1979.

Our mission is to assist adults in the process of reaching their academic, occupational, or personal goals through education, counseling, and training. RIRAL currently provides comprehensive assessment, academic instruction, counseling and training services to adults in Central Falls, East Providence, and Woonsocket. Instruction includes reading, writing, math, science, and technology literacy. St

udents can select a learning opportunity that best fits their needs such as a classroom environment, learning resource center, or distance learning. Those interested in enrolling in college may attend our comprehensive Transition to College program. Counseling and training is conducted through RIRAL’s Transition Services. The role of Transition Services is to support the student experience in adult education and assist with the transition to college and careers. From admissions to program completion, Transition Services staff supports students through case management, life skills training, referrals, and individualized career planning and advising. We offer academic, vocational, family needs and employability assessments as well as the GED and National External Diploma Program (NEDP). RIRAL operates an Official GED Test Center located at our main office in Woonsocket and coordinates the NEDP assessment statewide. We continue to be proud of the dedication, care, and professionalism of our teachers, and the persistence, determination, and success of our students.

Meet Xiao, a learner at this week’s Adult Education spotlight partner, ! Her journey at RIRAL began in 2015 when she enrolled in ESL classes. After discussing future goals, Xiao realized that if she wanted more than a job, she needed to earn a high school diploma and go to college. The program staff at RIRAL not only helped her overcome her self doubt, they also encouraged Xiao to study for and earn her GED and eventually enroll in RIRAL’s Transition to College program with CCRI. In May 2022, Xiao will finish her Associate’s degree and begin her career as a Medical Laboratory Technician! Congrats to you Xiao!!
