🚜 Even college instructors have to become students sometimes 🎓

TSTC in Waco Automotive Technology and Auto Collision & Management instructors recently traded the classroom for the forklift course at The WorkSITE.

They came by for forklift recertification and a hands-on refresher, brushing up on the skills they need when the job calls for them.

👀There may have been a little friendly competition involved on the obstacle course as well. 🤣

Keeping skills sharp matters especially when you’re usually the one doing the teaching.

👩‍👧 Like mother, like daughter 🤗

Seeing her own daughter succeed in an ESC Region 12 and Workforce Solutions manufacturing boot camp at The WorkSITE back in June inspired Michelle Meraz to come back and learn more for herself.

“She excelled, gained so much knowledge, and feels so much more competent because of the skills that she learned in such a short period of time," Michelle says.

That experience inspired her to enroll in a free OSHA 30 training course of her own. Now she’s already thinking about how she can use those skills to help others stay safe on the job.

"I have my daughter to look out for. I want to make sure that I'm safe in anything that I do. And the more knowledge that we're able to have, the more we're able to pass that on to others," Michelle says.

For her, training isn’t just about earning a credential. It’s about building confidence, learning from others and leading by example.

"This is just my foot in the door. I'm already looking at the next program to take here."

Skills you can use. Knowledge you can share. A safer workforce starts with people like Michelle.

🏭 For our workforce, keeping the line running means more than keeping production moving. It's about family.

One of our industry partners, Cargill, sent employees put to work in at The WorkSITE recently. They're learning to troubleshoot and operate variable frequency drives (VFDs) at the plant.

Cargill processes and makes ready-to-eat deli meat like turkey and other protein.

An employee in the class, Joey, says VFDs are really important at Cargill.

“Almost every piece of machine you go to now has a drive in it. We’ve got them all over the plant.”

Those drives help keep Cargill’s production lines moving and products going out the door. And for Joey, keeping that equipment running also means keeping food on his family’s table and the bills paid.

He's also planning to take what he learns back to his team.

“Hopefully I can set one of these up and show somebody else how to do it when I get back to work.”

That’s the goal of industry training at The WorkSITE: learn it here, use it at work and pass it on. 🛠️

🏗️ Welcome to the Greater Waco area, Fidelity Manufacturing! ⚙

Fidelity Manufacturing swung by to see how The WorkSITE works recently, as they begin to expand from Florida into McGregor.

Here's what they do:

⛈Weatherproof and noise-reducing generator enclosures 🤫
🌡Customized, temperature-controlled generator packages ⚡
⛽Fuel tanks ⛽
🏭Industrial stairs and platforms 🪜

Visits like this help us connect with industry and build the skilled workforce they need. 🛠️

Thanks Fidelity Manufacturing for stopping in, and welcome to the Greater Waco area!

🏅Ethan, Jose, Mathann and Kevin from Envases have spent the last three weeks on their grind at The WorkSITE, building skills they can take straight back to the Waco Envases plant.

The group trained hands-on with bearings, belts, motors and shafts, wrapping up the program with laser alignment.

And all four officially earned their SACA Gold certifications! 👏

Instructor Jerry Wilkey said their attitude stood out from day one.

“They came in hungry for knowledge and were very engaged. They made it fun.”

Congratulations, Mathann, Ethan, Jose and Kevin! We’re excited to see you put those new skills to work. 🛠️

🤝 Waco’s workforce momentum is getting noticed.

This morning, the Greater Waco Chamber brought the Texas Workforce Commission to Waco to tour The WorkSITE with many others who represent our growing workforce movement in Waco.

Workforce Commissioner Representing the Public Brent Connett toured the facility alongside leaders from the chamber, Workforce Solutions for the Heart of Texas, McLennan Community College, Fallas Automation, La Vega ISD, McLennan County Judge Scott Felton, and County Judge-Elect Rick Tullis.

That mix of education, industry and community leadership reflects the same collaborative spirit that helped make The WorkSITE possible in the first place, through the vision of McLennan County, the City of Waco, TSTC in Waco, and the Waco Industrial Foundation.

And now, that work is catching the attention of leaders across the state. 👀
