During board comment at a Sequoia Union High School District (SUHSD) board meeting on the evening of Nov. 12, board member Mary Beth Thompson, on behalf of a board committee, asked the superintendent to prepare a report for the Dec. 10 board meeting on a potential closure of the TIDE Academy school.

Thompson and fellow board member Rich Ginn were both a part of this board committee, which reviewed enrollment, program offerings and the long-term fiscal health of the district. According to Thompson, the committee found that TIDE Academy requires a disproportionate amount of resources to operate, in part due to it being a small school.

A fire broke out at Avenue Liquors in Roosevelt Plaza in the early morning hours of Nov. 3, killing two.

The Redwood City Fire Department reached the store around 5:30 a.m. to find the building “fully engulfed in flames” according to a statement released by the Redwood City Police Department at 10:51 a.m. Monday. Firefighters found the bodies of the deceased later that morning.

A lack of referees had led to game dates being switched for all sports. Referees have been quitting due to verbal abuse from players and parents, or retiring of old age due to not being able to keep up with the needs of the sport.

Tutorial periods have become a long-established part of the Woodside schedule, but while they’re here to stay, some teachers think there’s still room for improvement.

Tutorials are 35-minute periods after lunch on all school days but Wednesday that gives students the opportunity to catch up on work, check in with teachers or otherwise do something productive.

Chatter filled the halls the day after the election. Students shared their mixed opinions with each other, some showed their patriotic spirit by wearing American flags and teachers offered support for anyone who needed to talk.

Donald Trump was announced the winner of the 2024 presidential election on Nov. 6. He beat his opponent Vice President Kamala Harris by securing 312 electoral votes out of 538 total electoral votes.
