Waddell Academy

This is HUGEEEEE!!!! Last year, we won the small group project for Spartanburg County & we were determined to do our very best to gain that title again this year! Our students worked so hard this spring and all through the summer to take care of our garden. We have Gardening class weekly (& harvesting daily!) and are all learning so much about where our food comes from and that ANYONE can grow their own food! This year was highly competitive and we WON for Spartanburg County AND the entire Upstate Region-11 counties with deep agricultural roots!!!

We are beyond proud of our students and a huge shout-out to our Gardening Instructor, Heather Brockman, for sharing her time, expertise, and a LOT of patience with our students and staff! We couldn’t have done this without her.

I’ve had several people ask about our Amazon wish list and I’m incredibly thankful for the people that showed up for us last year. 🤟🏽 Due to our age ranges and unique environment-our list is very different than many you’ve seen!

Waddell Academy is a faith-based microschool in the Green Pond Community serving both neurodivergent and neurotypical students, ages 5k-12th grade. We offer a wide array of subjects and opportunities to our students with a 1:4 teacher to student ratio!

We provide a nurturing, personalized learning environment where every child is known, valued, and challenged to grow-fostering a strong sense of belonging and a love of learning that last a lifetime.

Oh yea-did I mention that we have THREE recesses daily? 🙌🏽 Our students are thriving-academically, spiritually, physically and emotionally.

Last month, Ms. Kirsten taught our students how to make the BEST guacamole in cooking class! It was absolutely delicious. One student said, “This is better than a restaurant!” Another student said, “This is like the table-side guac and I didn’t know we could make it ourselves!” Needless to say, we demolished it quickly!

This is the curriculum we use for Language Arts, Math, Handwriting and Science. Our students are making so much progress this year!

Our first day was simply amazing! These students are incredible and we had the BEST day! I’m so excited to watch them grow this school year! There’s nothing better than new students walking in and being a perfect fit for our group 🙌🏽 From the high fives, laughter, dancing, singing, lots of swinging, book buddies, big smiles, peace signs all the way to one student walking up to the garden to gather tomatoes to add to her salad for lunch—such a fun day! We are still harvesting our spring garden and the students took home peppers, tomatoes, peas, cantaloupe and every family got to take home a huge watermelon! Day 1 was a success and we can’t wait for tomorrow!
