Happy Earth Day! 🌎

Did you know…

🌱 Earth Day is celebrated every year on April 22nd and was first observed in 1970, marking the start of the modern environmental movement.

👥 An estimated 1 billion people worldwide participate in Earth Day activities each year, making it one of the largest civic observances in the world.

🏛️ The first Earth Day led to the creation of important environmental protections in the U.S., including the Environmental Protection Agency (EPA).

♻️ Recycling one aluminum can saves enough energy to run a TV for up to 3 hours.

🧴 About 1 million plastic bottles are purchased every minute around the world, but less than half are recycled.

🚰 Turning off the tap while brushing your teeth can save up to 8 gallons of water per day per person.

🌳 Planting trees is one of the simplest ways to help the planet, one mature tree can absorb up to 48 pounds of carbon dioxide per year.

🍽️ Food waste is a major issue: about 1/3 of all food produced globally is wasted, contributing to greenhouse gas emissions.

🌎 Even small actions, like using reusable bags, reducing energy use, or planting a seed, can make a meaningful impact when done collectively.

🌊 Oceans cover about 71% of the Earth’s surface and produce over 50% of the world’s oxygen, making them essential to life on our planet.

🔌 Unplugging electronics when not in use can reduce “phantom energy” usage, devices still draw power even when turned off.

🛍️ The average American uses over 300 plastic bags per year, many of which end up in landfills or oceans.

🌆 Urban trees can lower city temperatures by up to 10°F, helping reduce heat and improve air quality.

🚿 Taking shorter showers can save significant water, cutting just 2 minutes off your shower can save up to 5 gallons each time.

The Goodrich read-a-thon was a tremendous success. Thank you to everyone who helped make it such a meaningful and memorable event! Students showed incredible enthusiasm, dedicating time each day to dive into great books and build their love of reading. It was inspiring to see classrooms, families, and our entire school community come together to support literacy in such a fun and engaging way.

Thanks to your incredible participation and generosity, we raised an amazing $12,569.84! We were also thrilled to recognize student efforts by awarding prizes to the top 60 readers and the top 60 fundraisers, a fantastic accomplishment worth celebrating. In addition, a portion of the funds will go toward purchasing two new picnic tables for our school, creating more opportunities for students to gather, learn, and enjoy time outdoors.
These funds will continue to support enriching programs and resources for our students.

We are so proud of our readers and grateful to all who encouraged and supported them along the way. Thank you!

Mr. Schrom is currently working on his doctorate through Purdue University Global and is inviting Goodrich families to provide feedback on parent involvement and families’ sense of belonging within the school community.

Participation will include completing a brief survey. A small number of participants may also be invited to take part in a voluntary follow-up discussion to share more about their experiences with school communication, involvement opportunities, and connection to Goodrich.

Participation is completely voluntary, and you may withdraw at any time without penalty. Your decision will not impact your child’s educational experience or your relationship with the school. All responses will be kept confidential, reported in aggregate form, and used solely for research purposes.

Your feedback may help shape future opportunities for family involvement and strengthen practices that support a greater sense of belonging within our school community.
