Yesterday, we proudly celebrated Kierra’s graduation from our 300-Hour Braiding Program at A&O Braiding School! From day one, she showed unmatched dedication, passion, and talent. Throughout the program, Kierra mastered advanced techniques in knotless braids, twists, locs, parting, product knowledge, and client care—truly transforming into a licensed professional.

Beyond the classroom, Kierra showed up as a leader. She joined us at community events, shared her story with young girls, and inspired the next generation of braiders to believe in their dreams. Her journey is proof that when skill meets purpose, the possibilities are endless.

As we wrap up Week 12 here at A&O Braiding School, we’re proud to see our students stepping into their professional era with confidence and skill !

Over the past few weeks, students have been working hands-on with real clients—putting everything they’ve learned into practice.

They’ve advanced in:
▫️Twists
▫️Loc maintenance and starter Locs
▫️Advanced knotless braid styles

One of the most valuable lessons this week has been understanding product knowledge and how to customize hair care based on each client’s unique hair texture, scalp condition, and style goals. From choosing the right detanglers and gels to learning proper scalp treatments, our students are building the professional habits that will set them apart in the beauty industry.

Every braid, twist, and consultation is shaping them into licensed, knowledgeable professionals ready to thrive in their careers.

During Black History Month, A&O Braiding School had the incredible opportunity to host Roots & Braids: The Art of Natural Hair Care at Hinsdale South High School. This event wasn’t just about styling hair—it was about embracing our heritage, empowering young Black girls, and showing them the beauty and significance of braiding in our culture.

We taught students the rich history of braiding, from its deep roots in African tradition to its role in self-expression and identity today. More than just a hairstyle, we emphasized how natural hair and braids are a reflection of who we are—something to wear with confidence and pride. Seeing these young ladies light up as they learned new techniques and discovered their passion for braiding was truly rewarding!

Beyond hairstyling, we had real conversations about success as a Black woman, showing them how the art of braiding can open doors to entrepreneurship and financial independence. We discussed alternative career paths in the beauty industry, highlighting how braiding can be a lucrative, six-figure business that builds generational wealth. Seeing so many students sign up to take the next step toward becoming licensed braiders was a major success!

A huge thank you to Hinsdale South High School (hinsdale_south_high_school ) for welcoming us, Mrs. Truman for organizing the students, and Sydney Rencher for planning and allowing us to bring this program to schools within our community. Making an impact during Black History Month and seeing the joy on these students’ faces was the best feeling, and we can’t wait to do it again!

Week 5: Leveling Up Our Skills & Giving Back!

Our students are officially stepping into Week 5, and the growth has been beautiful to watch! Over the past month, they’ve mastered key foundational techniques, including:

✨ Knotless Braids – Perfecting tension control for seamless, lightweight styles.
✨ Two-Strand Twists & Rope Twists – Learning protective styling techniques for natural hair.
✨ Sectioning & Parting – Creating clean, precise parts for flawless braid ex*****on.
✨ Product Knowledge & Scalp Care – Understanding how to nourish and prep hair for long-lasting styles.

This week, we’re taking those skills outside the classroom! Our students will be participating in Hinsdale South’s Black History Month Braiding Clinic, where they’ll showcase their talents, educate others on the art of braiding, and celebrate the cultural significance of this craft.

This Black History Month, A&O Braiding School is honoring the legacy of Black hair artistry by investing in the next generation of braiders. Join us for an exclusive Braiding Bootcamp, where students will learn the history, techniques, and cultural significance of natural hair styling.

This hands-on experience is designed to educate, empower, and equip students with foundational braiding skills while celebrating the rich traditions of Black hair care.

Week 3 Recap: Growth in Every Braid!

As we step into Week 4, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the progress our students made in Week 3! Last week, they began hands-on practical training, applying their skills directly to mannequins. From mastering knotless braids to analyzing scalp conditions and deepening their product knowledge, every lesson brought them one step closer to becoming skilled professionals.

One thing we loved seeing? The way our students uplifted and taught each other—sharing tips, perfecting techniques, and building a true community of learning. Because in this industry, growth isn’t just personal—it’s collective.
