Our Lower Elementary class made the Tuleyome newsletter! They wrote about a recent field trip to Conaway Ranch and posted some photos.
"Although many of the nature field trips to Conaway Ranch this Spring are now canceled or in doubt, the Woodland Montessori School 1-3 class had the good fortune to come out on a beautiful pre-Spring day last week before everything shut down. Tracy Bandy’s class of about 15 students and lots of parents got to see new leaves of willows, valley oaks, wild rose, mugwort, blackberry, milk thistle, and of course, poison oak among many other new wild plants growing now. We saw lots of raccoon and otter tracks and s**t and the big otter slide between the slough and the irrigation canal was obviously recently used. The Western Pond Turtles were out on the branches dipping into the slough and we saw more than 20 bird species on our walk near the tule wetlands, the dry rice fields, and the oak riparian woodlands along the banks of Willow Slough. The most exciting spotting was a roosting of at least 100 Black Crowned Night Herons in the old oak trees at the Slough."
