Are you ready for Summer? As the school year wraps up, and we head into Summer, Braingagement is transitioning to be solely a skills center. Socially, we are partnering with The Brainery Bricks who will be stocking a gamut of sensory and tactile tools and toys and promoting our space. We will also be building more educational programming, especially for parents and caregivers. Follow Brainery Bricks for opening information.

Collaboration during our camp this morning. One doesn’t know how to read and the other offered to read to her. Today they played Lego games, started to build catapults, and did so many sensory things… tomorrow is potion bottles, continued work on building catapults, and probably more slime.

This. Philosophically, I believe the problem to solve is Society’s- not the autistic person’s. They need people to learn that people come in many varieties and just accept that.

Welcome to Autism Awareness Month. April is Autism Awareness month. I’m not ready to call it autism acceptance month. As a change agent, I can really acknowledge that we are not yet to acceptance… so I’m still working on bringing awareness. Guess what? Today we received our notification of acceptance as a nonprofit venture. The Braingagement Skills Center is still transitioning, but soon will have full acceptance as a nonprofit venture. This will allow us to provide more resources, fundraiser, build a scholarship fund, and reformat how we will offer coaching, advocacy and support services especially for those who are marginalized in the traditional school system: gifted, SPED, LGBTQ, autistic and ADHD kids.

But to further our approach to holistically handling people, we are currently working on putting together “The Brainery”. The Brainery is designed as a brick buy/sale and retail store. In addition, we will have a Braingagement section which is focused on Sensory tools and neurodivergent needs, including a focused book section of tools for parents and neurodivergent people.

Until we open, Braingagement will be dropping stickers and lapel pins featuring autism acceptance month and neurodivergent focused designs at Wild Grove Collective on Main St in Woodland.

Also look for us to drop our art contest for April: focused on Embracing Neurodiversity and participate for a possibility of being featured in our May 1 Art exhibition at The Brainery during First Friday Art Walk.
