Do you feel undervalued, or just plain ignored?

do you have an aching sense you have more to contribute, but nobody else seems to care?

Man I've been there.

I had a job once where I worked my butt off filling 3+ roles, and my bosses idea of a "Thank you" was a .50 cent raise 🤣

But I heard this one thing and it rocked my world.

If you become more valuable than you're being paid, you'll attract money to you.

I decided to do it.

Whether anyone ever believed in me or not.

And I got promoted 7 times in 5 years and quadrupled my income.

More than that? I wasnt just doing things anymore, I was leading.

I had a seat at the table, a voice, and I got to contribute!

I more purpose and excitement about my job than I thought was possible!!

More than that, I started to help others do the same thing.

I've had 3 mentees go from never really leading before to being in charge of a whole department! Others are supervisors or managers.

A client gave me this feedback the other day.

It made me pause and reflect.

Value is more important than price.
Every. Time.

The question should never be, "how much should I charge?"

The real question is, "How much is the transformation I'm inviting them into actually worth it to them?"

And beyond that, can you make it FUN for people to meet with you?

I can be so serious sometimes.

But honestly, why can't we have fun as we're helping our clients?

I think that comes from tossing the hustle aside, and tapping into peace.

Hot take: NEVER offer your clients your time ⏳️

I had to learn this the hard way🤦‍♂️

One of the biggest mistakes you can make as a coach, consultant, or online course creator is to offer your time to your clients.

Your time is what you value.

Not what THEY value.

This took me months and many sales meetings to realize.

I was selling from my perspective, not theirs.

Your most precious resource is your time.

But it means nothing to your clients.

Time is not transferable.

In fact, if it costs you an hour of your time to meet with them, it costs them an hour of their time too 😯

The amount of meetings, length of your book/content or number of hours in your course is a cost, not a benefit to your clients.

Never charge for time.

Charge for results.

What outcome will the client receive that will meaningfully improve their lives
👫Relationally?
💪Physically?
💲Financially?

What does that look like practically?

Instead of saying:
❌️ "My program includes 15 hours of course content, 3 one-on-one sessions, and direct access to me"

✅️ Try something like:

1️⃣ "Overcome underlying anxiety and stress so you stop blowing up at your kids again."

2️⃣ "Break addiction to sugar and caffeine so you can increase energy, focus, and never crash in the afternoon again."

3️⃣ "Add 10 hours back to every week by automating your admin work."

People don't buy courses, hire a coach, or consultant for the time you'll give them. But for the outcome you can help them achieve.

The less time it takes and the easier you can make it for them to get that outcome, the more value you'll deliver.

Anxiety isn't your problem. Forgetting who you are is.

This coming from someone diagnosed with clinical levels of anxiety 15 years ago.

I could barely function.

I got depressed and yes, even suicidal.

Until one day someone asked me, "do you have a higher power?"

I said I believed in Jesus

He said, "Depression comes from you trying to be God. If you believe in Jesus, He's God and you're not. Let go of trying to be God"

It took me a year of searching in the Scripture.

But then I finally surrendered.

Surrender is the cure for anxiety.

He's God. I'm not.

I'm a son and He loves me. He has good plans for my life.

He wants to give me a future and a hope *Jeremiah 29:11

I used to say I believed in Jesus.

But I was still my own God.

Now I'm learning believe is a continual process.

Daily He is Lord and I am not.

What is the most foundational "business verse" in the Bible?

I've been meditating on this a ton. And I think I've landed on something remarkable. But, I still have a ton of reflecting to do before I'm ready to definitely say "This is the founding verse!"

But here's what I'm thinking about.

A business is a system that produces value. It produces more than it consumes. If it doesn't, it'll fail.

No more cash. No more business.

The best businesses can reproduce themselves.

By that definiton, didn't God create the first "value production" system when He created plants?

They take in inputs (sun light, water, CO2, soil minerals), and produce outputs (oxygen, growth, fruit). The seed in a tree has all the data necessary to make an unlimited number of new trees. The fruit around the seed provides food for people and animals.

There's abundance.

That's how a business is supposed to work.

It's systemetized - a living organisms that takes in raw materials, contacts, and clients and outputs products, and satisfied customers that become advocates and support the businesses' growth.

A well designed business should be able to be defined in a very simple 1 page "busines plan" (not my favorite term. I prefer model or cycle. But go with me here).

If a business is too complicated to be defined in simple terms, it's too complicated to grow and multiply.

A plant's DNA and chemical systems and processes are extremely complex.

Yet we can put a seed in the ground. Make sure it gets water and sunlight, and wait for the fruit.

For business, we should be able to put an idea into the soil of the marketplace, and see a consistent return.

That's how we know we've truly built a system.

So I think the most foundaitonal "business verse" is "Be Fruitful and Multiply".

"Everyone, is always so angry, why are you so kind?"

This week I was speaking to an insurance adjuster.

We had a leak in our house.

On the face of it, it's a nightmare.

2 bedrooms, a living room, and our kitchen torn apart and unusable.

Trying to take care of my wife and 3 kids (4, 1, and a newborn).

Not able to cook, cleaning dishes in a tub.

It's not "fun".

But she asked me how I was and I was honest, "I'm doing great! My house is in rough shape but I'm having a great time!"

When she asked why, I said, "God and my family are my sources of joy, not my home"

I was reflecting on that a few days later.

I just feel so thankful. My family's healthy. They've got good food in their bellies. God has blessed us.

But so often in the past I'd let something as tiny as a flat tire ruin my day.

In fact, I remember years before I met Jesus when I would ruin my own day for months on end without any help from outside circumstances.

I was just miserable, ungrateful, depressed, and hopeless.

Now I can't imagine ever going back. Jesus is my hope.

No matter what happens, I know I'm Loved, I'm grateful for my savior, and I never stop thanking God for the family he gave me.

I had no idea how much Hope, Peace, and Joy is available in Jesus until I surrendered.

But I can truly say it has nothing to do with our circumstances or situation.

God is good. All the time.

Stressed about building a business?

Hot take: the stress will never leave "after you succeed"

If it depends on you now

The weight will only get heavier

I know...you came here for encouragement. so make sure you read till the end 😉

Proverbs 10:22 says "The blessing of the Lord makes rich, and He adds no sorrow with it."

So what's the sorrow that comes with success?

The painful weight of trying to protect it.

So what do you do?

Start trusting God now.

I Peter 5:6-7 NKJV says, "Therefore humble yourselves under the mighty hand of God, that He may exalt you in due time, casting all your care upon Him, for He cares for you."

There's no better cure for anxiety than humility.

Not sure where to start? Everytime I start feeling stressed I get on my knees, reminding myself that there is a God and I am not Him.

And I pray

Placing everything in His hands.

If it's His business, it's His stress.

Be free.

"Daddy, can you help me?"

My 4-year old said as he tried to climb into our hammock.

It was a warm brisk sunny afternoon.

Our hammock is slung between two pine trees.

He tried to get in and fell out.

He tried 5 more times, and asked for help 5 more times.

Each time I replied simply, "You can do it!"

And you know what?

After dusting himself off a few times, he got it on the 6th or 7th try!

New. Skill. Acquired.

That's a lot like how we need to mentor people as leaders.

Sometimes we do it for people, and we're robbing from them.

They don't need help.

It doesn't need to be "done right"

They just need us to say "You can do this!"

So who can you stop doing things for, and start encouraging right now?

Who knows? It could help them do something new they never thought they could until you came along!!

You're not charging enough...

On a call this morning, my client said, "I charge what I think people will pay"

But that's the wrong question.

This client has been bending over backwards, working long hours, barely making ends meet...

Why?

They aren't charging based on the VALUE they deliver.

When determining your prices, you should charge based on the return on investment to your customer.

That's it.

Forget charging by the hour.


Don't worry about what they're willing to pay.

Here's a simple formula to determine your price:

1. What's your client's annual revenue now? (For example: $800k)
2. What will it be after working with you? ($950k)
3. What's the difference between them? ($150K)

Of the money you were directly responsible for helping them make, can you charge somewhere between half and a tenth of that?

I like to get at least a two-fold return, if not 10 times return for my clients. I recommend you stay in that range too.

Progress felt like wading through mud waist-deep till I learned this one thing.

Dont just change your hardware, change the software.

Your hardware = your habits/actions💪

Your software = your mindset🧠

Until you change the way you THINK, you can have the best hardware in the business but your software is too clunky to keep up.

Most entrepreneurs are constantly thinking, what must I DO to be successful?

Good question.

But more importantly, ask, how must I think?

Scripture tells us in Romans 12:2 "And do not be conformed to this world, but be transformed by the renewing of your mind, that you may prove what is that good and acceptable and perfect will of God."

All real transformation by a new mindset.
