Hey people,

As you probably already know, we're back in full swing in AT3808, and what we have on tap is sure to excite you: a musical Tesla coil. Before we get into it though, we've got club rush this week, and we'll have a refresher course on soldering as it's a skill you'll need for the coil, and a good one to have in general. More on that later.

In November, the world's first Community College Hackathon will take place: HackCC. Hackathons - despite their name - aren't about hacking in the typical sense, but about what you can "hack" together with fellow students in a 36 hour window. Sleeping is optional. When the 36 hour window starts, you and your team of up to four have the duration to build whatever software or hardware submission you want from scratch, be it a website, an app, a drone hack, whatever you can think of.

The event is sponsored by the industry's largest companies like Microsoft and Google, and judged by them as well. They also choose the top ten submissions who receive prizes, and of those top ten the top three receive medals and even more rewards. The whole thing is totally free, food and drinks are provided, everyone that registers is guaranteed a bag of free stuff just for showing up, and even if you don't know anything about coding or hardware you're still invited; mentors will be in attendance who can show you how to get started.

Best of all, attendance looks great on a college application. For more information, the website's hackcc.org.

Here forever,
Casey Spencer
