Whether you are an aspiring or seasoned coach, the business side of coaching can be challenging. Jill Eck, a newer coach, picked up The Prosperous Coach by Steve Chandler and Rich Litvin to assist her in developing her coaching business.
In Jill's review of Chandler and Litvin's book, she shares, "I was not disappointed in the content that I found within the pages of this book. It helped me learn the ins and outs of social media and maintaining an engaging presence while not being too high tech."

Many times, the most complicated problems require simple solutions. And, often, where there is an issue, there are also tend to be outliers that have already solved it. Jen Huerd realized these discoveries and more as she read The Influencer by Joseph Grenny, Kerry Patterson, David Maxfield, Ron McMillan, and Al Switzler. Jen is now sharing her review of the book with us. She includes highlights of the authors' key messages and how the information applies to coaching.

A side note from Jen, "When I first bought Influencer, I wasn't sure I was going to like it. I had assumed it would be a 'business' book or too academic. Boy, was I wrong. This book is a LIFE book, with applications to personal and professional aspects. In addition, it has clear connections and applications to life coaching. The authors did a great job breaking influence down and giving excellent, real life stories and examples, demonstrating that what they're positioning is real and it works."

How many of us find ourselves pondering our purpose in life?

The distractions of our daily lives can easily hinder us from recognizing and responding to our calling. Nora Klaphake shares her review of The Yellow Envelope a Memoir by Kim Dinan and how Dinan’s journey mirrors many of ours. As you will see in Nora’s book review by all outside measures, Dinan is successful. She has a thriving professional life and a great personal life. However, for some reason, she still feels unhappy and dissatisfied. Nora does a beautiful job of outlining the key points of the memoir and how they apply to coaching.
It is a short and sweet read to resource when working with others or in this quandary yourself of “what is my calling and how do I live it out?”

How often do you find clients or employees exchanging personal responsibility for the responsibility of others, limiting outcomes and increasing frustrations?

Kim Keprios examines this issue and more through her review of the book Triggers by Marshall Goldsmith. In her synopsis of Marshall's book, Kim identifies the key points, how to apply accountability and coaching. She highlights Marshall's approach to examining habits, the "triggers" that stop people in their tracks, and how to expand client's awareness so, rather than surrendering to the situation, they recognize how to move beyond it.

What coaching clients have fallen prey to victimhood mentality? What clients seek beneficial ways to develop their confidence when confronted with challenging conversations?
Kelly Weiley points out in her review of Difficult Conversations by Douglas Stone, Bruce Patton, and Sheila Heen that their suggested approaches provide individuals with practical steps for effectively responding to complex discussions.
In her review, Kelly expresses her appreciation for this book and how it has enhanced her coaching. "As a coach, this book improved my ability to notice when elements identified in the book come up in comments and conversations. I can and do use that knowledge to get curious and ask better open-ended questions (not guiding questions – just curious ones :) to help facilitate the exploration of stories."
