🌻Today, meet Martha Demers, MTSS Coach for Mountain View Union schools (weekly schedule this school year is 4 days at HES and 1 day at Woodbury).
🟡 𝗧𝗲𝗹𝗹 𝘂𝘀 𝗮 𝗯𝗶𝘁 𝗮𝗯𝗼𝘂𝘁 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗽𝗿𝗼𝗳𝗲𝘀𝘀𝗶𝗼𝗻𝗮𝗹 𝗯𝗮𝗰𝗸𝗴𝗿𝗼𝘂𝗻𝗱: “I graduated from UVM in 2001 where my major was Early Childhood Education with a concentration in Human Development and Family Studies. In 2023, I earned my master's in Education from SNHU. The majority of my career has been focused on educating young children. I was the K/1 teacher at Woodbury for five years. While at Woodbury, I spent four years as a mentor and found that I really loved supporting my fellow teachers. I spent the last two years as an MTSS Coordinator at a different supervisory union. I feel my new role really synthesizes all of my work experience for the last 25 years.”
🟡 𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗮𝗿𝗲 𝘆𝗼𝘂 𝗹𝗼𝗼𝗸𝗶𝗻𝗴 𝗳𝗼𝗿𝘄𝗮𝗿𝗱 𝘁𝗼 𝗶𝗻 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗻𝗲𝘄 𝗷𝗼𝗯? “I am super excited to be working in the schools again in a role that allows me to spend all my time within the schools helping out my fellow teachers and spending time with our students.”
🟡𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝘄𝗮𝘀 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝘀𝘂𝗯𝗷𝗲𝗰𝘁 𝗶𝗻 𝘀𝗰𝗵𝗼𝗼𝗹? “I loved math- I had a hard time with it in elementary school, but something clicked when I took algebra in 9th grade and it became my favorite subject. I was also a music and theater geek. I was in chorus and band all the way through school (including college)- I sing and play three instruments.”
🟡𝗪𝗵𝗮𝘁 𝗶𝘀 𝗼𝗻𝗲 𝗼𝗳 𝘆𝗼𝘂𝗿 𝗳𝗮𝘃𝗼𝗿𝗶𝘁𝗲 𝗰𝗵𝗶𝗹𝗱𝗿𝗲𝗻'𝘀 𝗯𝗼𝗼𝗸𝘀? “I have two- "There's a Nightmare in my Closet"- a favorite of mine since I was kindergarten and "The Lorax"- when I was student teaching at the UVM Preschool, there was a student who loved that book, and I read it to him every single day to the point where I had memorized it!”
🟡 𝗜 𝗵𝗮𝘃𝗲 𝗮 𝘀𝗼𝗳𝘁 𝘀𝗽𝗼𝘁 𝗳𝗼𝗿... “Cats- they have always been my favorite animal. I currently own two- a few years ago we had four!”
🟡 𝗙𝘂𝗻 𝗙𝗮𝗰𝘁: “Water is my element-I grew up a few miles from Lake Champlain and have always loved the ocean. I try to visit the coast in Maine at least 2-3 times a year if not more. Spending time in or near water is how I relax and recharge. Ironically, my name literally means ‘Lady (Martha) Of the sea (Demers)’.”
