Woodburn High School Mariachi

Woodburn High School Mariachi The WHS Mariachi in Woodburn, OR is a student group available to perform during the school year for various public and private functions.

We do not perform during the summer months. The WHS Mariachi Band is the very first high school Mariachi band in the state of Oregon. While the concept for developing a high school Mariachi band emerged as a way to reflect and celebrate the cultural majority of the students (70% Hispanic), the band is composed of students from a variety of cultural backgrounds reflecting the diversity of the Woodb

urn community. The band rehearses as a part of the daily school schedule and is a component of a complete traditional high school music department of vocal, instrumental and music theory/music history offerings in the Woodburn Arts and Communications Academy. Traditional instrumentation, repertoire and music literacy is the goal. Since its inception in 2003, the band has performed throughout the Pacific Northwest for many different functions including: Portland Cinco de Mayo, Portland Rose Festival Grand Floral Parade, the visitations of Former Mexican President Vicente Fox and Civil Rights Leader, Dolores Huerta to Western Oregon University, the State of Oregon House of Representatives and Cesar E. Chavez Leadership Conferences. Each year, the WHS Mariachi performs some 30-40 times and is requested more times than it performs.

Congratulations to this group of students who got second place at state in the Mariachi ensemble category.
These students came together and rehearsed on their own for many hours outside of school to prepare for district and state. Very proud of their accomplishments! 🥳👏🏼

Join us today for an evening of Latin Music! Here is a preview of tonight's concert at Woodburn High School put on by the Willamette Master Chorus featuring the Freddy Vilches Latín Ensemble. There will also be performances by the WHS Mariachi. We have two shows today: 4 pm and 7 pm. Tickets can be purchased at the door.

The Willamette Master Chorus will have two concerts at the high school this Saturday to celebrate music from Latin America. The first concert will be at 4 pm and the second one at 7 pm. The concert will feature the Freddy Vilches Latin Ensemble. The mariachi will also be performing during the concert. Tickets are $27 and can be purchased at www.willamettemasterchorus.com or at the door the day of the concert.
