In 1962, astronaut John Glenn refused to fly until one woman checked the electronic computerโ€™s math by hand.
Her name was Katherine Johnson.
At the time, NASA had new electronic machines, but trust in them was low. Glennโ€™s instruction was blunt: "Get the girl to run the numbers. If she says they're good, I'm ready to go."
She ran them. He flew. ๐Ÿš€
Johnsonโ€™s brilliant trajectory calculations carried Alan Shepard into space, put Glenn in orbit, and helped bring Apollo 11 safely back from the Moon.
And she did all of this while working in a segregated building, using a segregated bathroom, at an agency that initially classified her as a "computer" rather than a mathematician.
She passed away in 2020 at the age of 101, having already received the Presidential Medal of Freedom from Barack Obama.
A profound reminder that true expertise, resilience, and human insight will always outshine raw processing power.

Scientists captured the moment a star was born.

Astronomers have unlocked a breathtaking view of star birth by training three world-class telescopes on HH 30, a protoplanetary disk located about 450 light-years away in the Ta**us Molecular Cloud.

Recognized by the European Space Agency as the quintessential textbook example of a disk seen edge-on, HH 30โ€™s central newborn star remains completely hidden behind a thick, dark band of cosmic dust. However, its brilliant light leaks out above and below this shadowy equator, illuminating spectacular jets of gas spewing into interstellar space.

To map this cosmic cradle, researchers combined infrared data from the James Webb Space Telescope, visible light from the Hubble Space Telescope, and radio-wavelength observations from the Atacama Large Millimeter/submillimeter Array in Chile. Together, these observations tracked how dust grains of various sizes behave within the disk. While Webb revealed that tiny, bacteria-sized grains are widely scattered, ALMA showed that larger, millimeter-sized grains are concentrated in a thin seam along the central plane. This precise settling of dust is a crucial evolutionary step, creating the high-density environment where cosmic pebbles can clump together to form new planets.

There is a rock quietly following Earth around the Sun right now. And nobody knows where it came from. ๐Ÿชจ

It is called Kamoสปoalewa. A tiny asteroid no wider than a football field that has been silently accompanying our planet for almost a century.

It is not a moon. But it is not a typical asteroid either. It loops around Earth in a slow stable path. A companion in the darkness of space.

And here is the most fascinating part โ€” scientists believe it may actually be a chunk of our own Moon. Blasted into space by an ancient impact billions of years ago.

Right now China's Tianwen-2 spacecraft is hovering just 20 kilometers from its surface. Sending back humanity's first ever close up images of this mysterious world.

And by November 2027 โ€” it will bring a piece of it back to Earth.

Physicist Michio Kaku has talked about an intriguing idea: what if dark matter isn't actually hidden matter in our universe?

Some theories suggest our universe may exist alongside other invisible universes in a higher-dimensional space. We can't see these neighboring universes because light stays trapped inside each one.

Scientists at NASA have discovered massive structures on Pluto that may be โ€œcryovolcanoesโ€ โ€” volcanoes that erupt ice instead of molten lava. ๐ŸŒŒ
These icy volcanoes are believed to release frozen materials such as water ice, ammonia, and other compounds onto Plutoโ€™s surface. The discovery suggests that Pluto may still have internal geological activity, despite being one of the coldest and most distant worlds in our Solar System.
