As families prepare for a new school year, many parents may have questions or concerns about their child’s education but may not know where to begin.

If you are the parent of a child in PreK through Grade 12 and have a question about academics, behavior, special education, communication with teachers, school expectations, bullying, or advocating for your child, please send me a direct message.

Each week, I will select a Parent Question of the Week and share practical guidance that may help other families experiencing a similar challenge. Questions will always be shared anonymously, with no identifying information about the parent or child.

No question is too small. If it matters to your child, it matters. Let’s work together to help every child have the opportunity to succeed.

As an educator my goal is never recognition. It is ALL about how I can maximize my skills and expertise I’ve worked tirelessly to achieve to benefit children . I am passionate about improving the lives of those who need it most and changing the narrative for children and their families. If you don’t understand that about me, then you really don’t want to, neither are you aligned with the work I’m committed to doing. I will always stay true to that because that is my core belief and my moral purpose.
It saddens me to see people who do a job, but they never think about what impact their actions or lack of have on children and their families who need us so much.
One day real soon, everything is going to fall in line, without me folding to the status quo.
My conscience and vision are always clear because what I do is not for self gratification, it’s really for the children and their families because they need people like me in their corner.
And you may be saying , but I am of the same belief. Well do better and stop being okay with mediocrity, supporting unqualified decisions, and people collecting a paycheck and that’s it. I am sick to my stomach of all of the photo ops, the social media impressions and anyone who knows better can see straight through the BS. Yes, I said it . I see people researching and using accurate verbiage , but the decisions being made are clearly for someone like me a waste of time, money, and resources. I’m so saddened because the general population and same children and families that need advocates believe what they are seeing and hearing.
We are ready to receive children once again for the school year 2026-2027. Are you going to stand for the same thing or do better? Can we stop wasting our children’s time? They have one year at each grade level that builds on another- there is urgency . Do better !

Hands-on learning is powerful, but only when it’s purposeful. 🌍

Today, students used Play-Doh to model the layers of the Earth, but this wasn’t just an art activity. It was a language-rich learning experience designed to build deep understanding across subjects.

As students created their models, they:

🟢 Learned and used academic vocabulary like crust, mantle, outer core, and inner core
🟢 Practiced spelling and labeling scientific terms
🟢 Worked collaboratively and explained their thinking
🟢 Built confidence using new language through hands-on learning
🟢 Prepared to read informational text and write about Earth’s layers

Activities like this also support learning across subjects:

📖 Reading: Students connect models to informational texts and diagrams.
✍🏽 Writing: Students describe each Earth layer using academic vocabulary.
🔢 Math: Students compare the size and thickness of layers and interpret diagrams.
🗣 Speaking: Students explain their models and practice using precise language.

This is especially important for multilingual learners, who benefit from seeing, saying, building, and writing new concepts.

Dr. O’s Educational Services was recently honored to be selected as a Top Three Finalist in the development of a middle school after-school academic enrichment and career exploration program.

Through this process, feedback highlighted several strengths in our program design, including:

Big things are happening. 🚀

I’m excited to introduce the Innovators and Leaders Academy, a structured summer and after-school program designed to help middle school students strengthen their reading, writing, and math skills while developing leadership, problem-solving, and innovation skills.

This isn’t just enrichment.
This is academic growth with purpose.

Students in this program:

✔ Strengthen reading comprehension through nonfiction analysis
✔ Build writing skills through structured responses and reflection
✔ Apply math to real-world problem-solving
✔ Explore careers through hands-on innovation projects
✔ Learn to think critically, collaborate, and lead

I’m excited to introduce Innovators and Leaders Academy—a program designed to challenge students academically while helping them grow as thinkers, innovators, and leaders.

Students in this program don’t just stay busy—they engage in meaningful learning. They will read, write, and apply math skills while working on hands-on STEM projects, solving real-world problems, and building leadership skills.

Too often, enrichment programs focus only on activities. This program was intentionally designed to strengthen academic skills while helping students think critically, communicate clearly, and develop confidence in their abilities.

As summer approaches, I am opening conversations with schools, organizations, and families who are looking for structured, engaging programs that challenge students academically while preparing them to lead and innovate.
