๐Ÿ’™ You don't need a birthday to make a difference.

Tomorrow, September 5, is International Day of Charity, a day dedicated to giving, volunteering, and taking action to help others.

And we have a challenge for you:

What if you turned your Facebook into a way to support mental health in your community?

You can create a Facebook fundraiser benefiting NAMI Southwestern Illinois and invite your friends and family to give.

You don't have to wait for a birthday. You don't need to host an event. And you don't have to raise thousands of dollars to make an impact.

Every contribution helps NAMI Southwestern Illinois continue our work to provide support, education, advocacy, and hope to people affected by mental illness and the people who care about them.

๐Ÿ’™ Want to help?

โžก๏ธ Start a fundraiser for NAMI Southwestern Illinois
โžก๏ธ Share it with your friends and family
โžก๏ธ Tell them why mental health matters to you

Maybe mental health has touched your life.
Maybe someone you love has needed support.
Maybe you believe that no one should have to face mental illness alone.

Whatever your reason, this is a chance to turn that belief into action.

Let's make our community a little more supportive, a little more connected, and a lot less alone.

This International Day of Charity, give hope. Share hope. Be part of hope. ๐Ÿ’™

๐Ÿง” Happy National Beard Day!

Letโ€™s be honest: maintaining a good beard takes a little work. Washing, brushing, trimming, conditioningโ€ฆ maybe even a fancy beard oil. ๐Ÿ˜‚

And you know what? Taking care of yourself takes work, too.

Self-care doesn't have to mean a spa day or a week-long vacation. Sometimes it's taking a shower, getting enough sleep, stepping outside for a few minutes, spending time doing something you enjoy, or simply giving yourself permission to rest. And you don't need a beard to do that. ๐Ÿ˜‰

So today, take care of the beard (metaphorical or real) and take care of the person underneath it. ๐Ÿ’š

NAMI SWI is always staying busy. ๐Ÿ˜‰

Last week was a jam-packed one for us.
We were happy to attend the When Mental Illness Hits Home event at the National Shrine of Our Lady of the Snows last Friday. They had some wonderful speakers and we enjoyed getting out and talking with people in the community.

Where do you think weโ€™ll be next? ๐Ÿ‘€

๐Ÿค Soโ€ฆ what do NAMI volunteers actually do?

A lot more than you might think!

Our volunteers help NAMI Southwestern Illinois connect with the community, spread mental health awareness, support events, share resources, and keep our mission moving forward. ๐Ÿ’™

And there isn't just one way to volunteer.

Maybe you're great at organizing. Maybe you love talking to people. Maybe you're a social media whiz. Maybe you want to help at events. Maybe you simply have a few hours here and there that you'd like to put toward something meaningful.

Thereโ€™s room for all kinds of volunteers at NAMI SWI. ๐ŸŒฑ

Not every volunteer role requires specialized mental health training, and we'll let you know when training or other requirements apply.

Interested in finding your place? We'd love to have you join us. ๐Ÿ’™

Complete the volunteer application here: https://namiswi.org/get-involved/volunteer/
