Did you know? The monarch butterfly is the state insect of Illinois. During the summer months, monarchs produce several broods in Illinois before the final migratory brood begins its journey south to overwinter in Mexico.

Here at the Wood Dale Public Library, we have a special garden in front of the building called a Monarch Waystation. This garden is filled with milkweed and other nectar-rich plants that provide essential habitat for monarch butterflies during their migration. Our Waystation is registered as number 48903 with Monarch Watch.

The next time you visit the Library, stop by our Monarch Waystation! You might see a monarch, a friendly bumblebee, or other local pollinators that are an essential part of maintaining the biodiversity of Illinois.
