Tas Montessori School The goal of Tas Montessori School is to provide a safe environment and a sound foundation.

Lindsay Pickerel, the director and Head of School, is passionate about authentic Montessori education. She has been an educator for over 12 years now, and is an internationally certified Montessori teacher. Lindsay embraces the fact that lessons at school are “presented” rather than “taught,” allowing each student to explore and eventually master skills at his or her own developmentally-appropriat

e pace. She sees the mission of her teaching as “encouraging and guiding children to become global citizens.” In addition to nurturing the Tas Montessori students, she has two children of her own who have attended Tas Montessori School.

Learning is done by doing in a Montessori classroom.

Matching letter sounds to objects is an important pre-reading work.
The letter sounds are far more important than the letter’s names when learning to write and read.

Because we don’t focus on letter names at first, the process is much less confusing for children, and it enables them to begin to write and read earlier with a stronger phonetic foundation.

Building a strong foundation in math should start with understanding the underlying process of getting to an answer. When children work with hands on Montessori math activities they are deeply exploring the “how” and “why” behind math concepts rather than just getting the right answer.

In Montessori learning the children begin with what they can see, touch, hear, and smell because perception is the foundation of complex understanding.

Insert sensorial materials.

These works help children refine their senses and learn to discriminate subtle differences.
Sensorial work helps build more than knowledge. It builds clarity, focus, and the ability to make sense of complexity.

Pet Day is one of the highlights of our summer programming! Children love getting to show and tell their friends about their pets and everyone gets to meet and experience many different pets from multiple households.
This year there were several dogs of all different sizes and breeds, a bunny, a leopard gecko, White’s Tree Frogs, cats, a snapping turtle, a ball python, and last but not least, a pet chicken!
A big thank you to all of our parents who take time out of their day to make this day special for all of our littles!

A super fun art project went home this week! This is the first time we’ve endeavored to use this application, but the process was quite a hit with most of our friends! Some were much more reluctant to get messy than others, but they all enjoyed the end result! 🎨🫟
