🌟 When it comes to childcare, safety is a top priority.

By wearing name tags, we ensure our teachers are easily identifiable at all times. If we need to carry keys and name tags anyway, why not personalize it and make it fun?! This morning, each of our staff got to put together their own lanyard, showing off their uniqueness while working together to keep us all safe. 💜

"Play is the work of the child" - Maria Montessori

But what does that mean? 🤔

As adults, we often assume that play is just that - playing; it's not always associated with learning. But in early childhood education, we've realized that a hands-on, play-based curriculum is key to building the foundation for a strong educational journey. Not every learning moment can be measured through a worksheet or concrete piece of work - some of the most meaningful lessons are intangible 💜

Some examples we see below 👀

• Apple stand in dramatic play: our friends practice social skills by taking orders and interacting with one another, explore math concepts such as counting, sorting, and classifying apples, and enhance early literacy through interactions with signs, menus, and price lists.

• Snowflake stem construction: using and strengthening those fine motor muscles in the wrists, hands, and fingers are key in successful writing later on! Plus, stem manipulatives like these encourage cognitive development, creativity, and inventiveness.

• Dollhouses and magnatiles: these toys are VERY popular in our classrooms right now, putting sharing, turn-taking, and problem-solving at the forefront of many conversations; essential social skills everyone needs to learn! In addition, our friends are engaging in imaginative play, which enhances their language and communication, helps to build empathy through role-playing, and develops critical thinking skills.

As a proud program of the James L. McKeown Boys & Girls Club of Woburn, our mission is to "Inspire youth to find their greatness".

This starts with embracing our mission statement when developing the curriculum and care for even our youngest members, and our preschool teachers jumped right into it to kick off our school year! Our first theme was "All About Me", giving our new group of kiddos the perfect opportunity to share more about themselves and get to know their new classmates.

Highlighted below is some of our friends creating their own self-portraits - allowing them the creativity to express themselves, share what makes them unique, and begin their journeys to finding their greatness. 🫂💙
