Did you know? UVA Wise and Appalachian College of Pharmacy have a collaborative dual-degree program that allows students to complete a BA in Biochemistry and PhD in Pharmacy in as few as 6 years!

Students accepted into the program at UVA Wise are guaranteed early admission to ACP contingent on completing prescribed UVA Wise coursework.

What is the Pre-Professional Club?

The purpose of the Pre-Professional Club is to assist students who desire to enter a profession by providing opportunities for self-improvement and preparation for professional programs. The professions include, but are not limited to, medical, pharmacy, law, dentistry, forestry, engineering, physical therapy, and veterinary medicine. Anyone of any major who is interested may join. Volunteer work, test preparation material (MCAT, PCAT, LSAT, etc.), and scheduling speakers, programs, and workshops that could be beneficial to those aspiring to enter professional schools are emphasized.

UVa-Wise Pre-Professional Club students visited Charlottesville last week and spent time with UVA staff, faculty and students at the UVA Karen S. Rheuban Center for Telehealth, UVA School Of Nursing, Center for Global Health at UVA, UVA Darden School of Business, UVA School of Medicine Admissions Office, and UVA Cancer Center. We had a great time touring grounds and enjoyed downtown Charlottesville at the Tom Tom Founders Festival - TTFF Events and Charlottesville City Market.

REMINDER | VCOM Presentation Tomorrow!

Join the Pre-Professional Club at 5:30pm on Friday March 31 in the Science Center Atrium for PIZZA and VCOM giveaways.

Madison Compton, Uva-Wise Alumna and current Virginia College of Osteopathic Medicine student, is visiting campus to talk to the PPC about her experience at VCOM, applying to med school, DO vs. MD, and the best ways to prepare for med school while at UVa-Wise.

UVa-Wise students with a business idea can enter the UVa-Wise Cup Concept competition for a chance to win $1,000.
Submit a summary by Nov. 3 and pitch your idea on Nov. 10.
An informational session will be held at the next Innovators INC meeting on Oct. 17th @ 5:00 PM in the old library circulation area to answer additional questions.

Dr. Beth Mathisen, a physical therapist from Norton Community Hospital will be joining us this Thursday (9/29) at 7 p.m. in the coffee shop on the 5th floor of the library. She plans to give a brief presentation on Physical Therapy school, as well as a little background about how she got into PT, what school/clinicals entails, and what the day to day in the work-place looks like.

Also, if you have any questions for Dr. Mathisen, feel free to bring those and she will address those at the end of her presentation.
