What skills do local manufacturers need next? Today, we’re hearing directly from employers.

At Mid-State’s USA MADE employer listening session, we’re reviewing certificates already developed and asking what’s missing, from training needs to the challenges employers face in developing their workforce.

Their input will help shape training through our U.S. Small Business Administration Empower to Grow grant, supporting eligible small manufacturers across Central Wisconsin.

Thank you to the employers sharing their experience and helping us build what comes next!

Stay tuned as we build on today’s session to address what local manufacturers need. Free training for current employees of eligible manufacturers is slated to begin in the first quarter of 2027.

What could you learn, make, or try next week?

Mid-State has several classes coming up, with opportunities to build practical skills, explore a new interest, learn something useful, and enjoy a hands-on experience.

You could learn to make classic lo mein, create a fall mum planter, explore ways to improve the quality of your sleep, learn poultry processing skills, or take part in free sessions on topics like women of the Revolutionary War and overdose prevention training.

With a mix of free and affordable options, there’s something for everyone.

Seats are limited for Tactical Emergency Medical Services (TEMS) Training.

This four-day course takes place October 1–4 in Wisconsin Rapids and focuses on the applied science of tactical medicine and rescue techniques. Participants will train with experienced instructors, develop practical skills in tactical medical care and high-threat rescue techniques, and learn how to adapt under extreme conditions.

The course is open to professionals employed by or sponsored through law enforcement, fire/EMS, hospitals, military, or emergency government agencies. Pre-registration and proof of certification are required.

Cost is $490 per participant.

Last week, future chefs were busy in the kitchen during Mid-State’s Summer Cooking Camp at the Wisconsin Rapids Campus.

Campers practiced new culinary skills and turned fresh ingredients into their own creations, from pizza (including scratch-made dough) to breakfast favorites and chicken tacos.

A fun few days of learning, creativity, and delicious results.
