Trust the Unfolding is slowly coming to an end… and to be honest, I’m grateful. 🤍
This theme has tested and tried me in ways I never could have anticipated.
This month, I’ve been stripped of so many familiar things — from changes in my appearance, to transitioning out of being the studio owner at the downtown location, to saying goodbye to my sweet Juneau. It has been a month of feels, to say the least.
And somewhere in the middle of all of it, I’ve learned a lot about surrender.
Surrender doesn’t come easily to me. In uncertain or difficult times, my go-to has always been movement. I roll out my yoga mat. I go for a run. I move the energy through my body until my head feels a little clearer.
But this time, with the restrictions I’m still under, neither of those options were available to me in the way I was used to.
So surrender kind of forced its way into my reality.
I certainly didn’t welcome it with open, accepting arms. But as the days passed, a willingness started to settle in.
I began to remember that my practice didn’t have to look the way it always had.
Maybe yoga right now is a gentle walk through the woods.
Maybe it’s sitting still long enough to take a few deep breaths and feel my feet beneath me.
Maybe it’s reading. Journaling. Grounding. Resting.
Maybe the practice is simply allowing myself to feel what needs to be felt instead of trying to outrun it.
And strangely enough, I think more has moved through me during these quiet practices than an intense run or yoga practice could have moved.
Emotions. Energy. Breath. Tears. Thoughts. Grief. Fear. Acceptance.
I’ve allowed them to come, move through, and eventually soften.
And through all of it, I’m realizing that I am healing on the level I truly need to heal.
Has it been easy? Absolutely not. Just ask my family and friends. 🤍. But with their love and support — and with all of these little tools and practices I’ve gathered along the way — life is beginning to feel a little lighter.
Maybe that’s what surrender really is.
Not giving up.
Not pretending everything is okay.
Not forcing ourselves to love what is happening.
But loosening our grip enough to allow life to meet us where we are.
So as August begins to wind down, I’m going to take that lesson with me as I step away for a little while for a much-needed vacation with my family.
To relax.
To restore.
To laugh.
To be present with them again.
And to continue healing.
I started August talking about trusting the unfolding without realizing just how deeply I was going to be asked to live it.
And maybe that was the lesson all along.
Sometimes we choose the theme.
And sometimes…the theme chooses us. 🤍
I also want to say how deeply grateful I am for the many people who reached out during this time — to share their own stories, to offer encouragement, and to simply let me know I wasn’t alone in it. Those messages meant more than I can even put into words. That’s what community is all about. 🤍
Grateful to share this space with you 🙏
